Manual Machinist - 1st Shift

American Crane & Equipm•Douglassville, PA
•Onsite

About The Position

American Crane & Equipment Corporation is hiring a full-time, on-site Manual Machinist for its manufacturing shop in Douglassville, Pennsylvania. The role produces custom, low-volume precision components for overhead cranes and hoists rather than repetitive mass-production parts. The machinist sets up and operates manual and CNC machines, interprets engineering blueprints, applies knowledge of steel and material properties, uses trigonometry and geometry, and verifies finished parts against required tolerances. The position requires ownership of work quality, efficient job-queue and timeline management, machine and tooling maintenance, and adherence to safety procedures, including PPE and lockout/tagout. The machinist collaborates with team members, leadership, engineering, and quality to meet production goals. The posted schedule is first shift, Monday through Friday, with the description giving both 5:00 AM–1:30 PM and, at the end, 5:30 AM–1:30 PM; it states 40 hours per week plus overtime as needed. The position is based at 531 Old Swede Road, Douglassville, PA, in a manufacturing shop with moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, noise, and varying temperatures. Employment is contingent on U.S. work authorization, required identity and employment verification, eligibility to access applicable export-controlled information or technology, and successful background and drug screening. Some projects may require eligibility to obtain and maintain unescorted access to nuclear facilities. The role also requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work full-time including overtime as needed, and perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proficient knowledge of machine-shop procedures and steel properties.
  • Strong blueprint interpretation and precision-measuring skills.
  • Ability to apply trigonometry and geometry to machining tasks.
  • Ability to operate manual lathes, horizontal boring mills, drill presses, and milling machines.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work full-time hours including overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and in varied environmental conditions.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship and ability to verify identity and work authorization under Form I-9.
  • Eligibility to access information or technology governed by applicable U.S. export-control laws.
  • Willingness to undergo a background check, pre-employment drug screen, and randomized drug screening during employment.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Set up and operate manual lathes, horizontal boring mills, drill presses, and milling machines to produce precision components.
  • Operate CNC machines and create jigs or sharpen tools as needed to support manufacturing operations.
  • Select appropriate feeds, speeds, and tooling based on steel properties and material characteristics.
  • Apply trigonometry and geometry to calculate dimensions, angles, and tolerances for machining tasks.
  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Use precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and height gauges, to verify parts meet specifications.
  • Identify and flag discrepancies between prints and finished components.
  • Estimate job timelines and manage the job queue while maintaining quality standards.
  • Maintain machines, organize tooling, and keep the workspace clean and safe.
  • Follow safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, PPE requirements, and safe machine-operation practices.
