About The Position

The Weidmann Group is a global company active in the energy and medical fields, specializing in electrical insulation for transformers and advanced plastics for medical applications. We are seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join our Maintenance team in Urbana, Ohio. This role focuses on using manual lathes, mills, and other machining equipment to manufacture, modify, and repair components essential for the maintenance and reliability of our production equipment. Unlike a traditional production machinist, you will collaborate directly with the Maintenance team to troubleshoot equipment issues, create or repair replacement parts, and minimize production downtime. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled manual machinist looking to expand their industrial maintenance knowledge and develop additional mechanical and electrical skills.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience operating manual lathes and manual mills.
  • Experience machining, modifying, and repairing precision components is required.
  • Ability to read blueprints and mechanical drawings.
  • Confidently use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Previous experience in machining, tool room operations, industrial maintenance, fabrication, mechanical repair, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and an interest in expanding skills into industrial equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a Maintenance team.
  • Safely use hand and power tools.
  • Lift up to 100 lbs.
  • Work in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical, PLC/VFD, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical maintenance experience are a plus, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual lathes, mills, and related machining equipment to manufacture, modify, and repair shafts, bushings, housings, and other precision components needed to maintain production equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and specifications while using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Partner with Maintenance and Production to troubleshoot equipment issues, identify repair solutions, and support the repair and maintenance of pumps, gearboxes, motors, mechanical drives, and other industrial equipment.
  • Perform fabrication, fitting, assembly, and welding as needed while supporting preventive maintenance activities and safe, reliable equipment operation.
  • Expand industrial maintenance capabilities through hands-on training and cross-training in mechanical and electrical maintenance, including areas such as hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission systems, motor alignment, electrical troubleshooting, PLCs, and VFDs.
