Manual Machinist-Auxiliary Equipment-3rd Shift

Anderson International Corp•Stow, OH

About The Position

Runs AIC’s supporting manual equipment on 3rd shift, including a horizontal broach, drill press, saw, slab mill, and planer mill for ID keyways. Prepares and finishes components so they can move to the next operation. Manual turning and milling are secondary responsibilities as the schedule requires. The primary responsibility is operating auxiliary manual equipment that supports the CNC and manual machining departments: cutting stock to length, broaching, drilling and tapping, slab milling on Machine 137, and cutting ID keyways on the planer mill. The role also performs manual turning and manual milling when the schedule calls for it. The machinist works without a supervisor on the floor for part of the shift and escalates problems to the 3rd Shift Production Manager.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of manual machining experience on supporting equipment such as broaching, drill presses, saws, slab mills, or planer mills.
  • Good blueprint-reading skills, including keyways, hole patterns, slots, and tolerances, and shop math skills.
  • Ability to use calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and go/no-go gauges.
  • Ability to work a consistent 3rd-shift schedule; overtime as workload requires.
  • Good attendance and safety record; follows AIC safety rules and PPE requirements.
  • Motivated, accountable self-starter able to work with limited supervision on an off shift.
  • Basic computer skills for clocking work orders using Sage 500 currently and Epicor Kinetic in 2027.
  • Ability to stand and walk for most of the shift and reach, bend, stoop, kneel, and climb as needed.

  • Study blueprints, routings, and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, tooling, and sequence of operations.
  • Set up and operate a horizontal broach for keyways, splines, and other internal forms; select broaches and bushings and check results with gauges.
  • Set up and operate a planer mill to cut ID keyways to drawing size, depth, and position.
  • Set up and operate a slab mill to produce keyways to specifications.
  • Use a drill press to drill, ream, countersink, and tap using fixtures, vises, and clamps; locate holes from layouts or drawings.
  • Use a saw to cut bar, plate, and tube stock to length; set blade speed and feed and hold length tolerances.
  • Operate manual lathes and Bridgeport-type mills when the schedule requires.
  • Lay out parts with height gauges, scribes, and surface plates when no fixture exists; deburr parts and break edges before they move to the next operation.
  • Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, keyway gauges, plug gauges, and other applicable gauges; record first-piece and in-process checks.
  • Change saw blades and sharpen or replace cutters, broaches, and drills; maintain equipment and report machine problems to maintenance.
  • Accurately clock on and off every work-order operation and report labor against the correct job.
