About The Position

Fairbanks Morse Defense is seeking an experienced Inside Manual Machinist II to fabricate, rework, and repair high-precision metal components for defense and specialized industrial applications. The role is performed primarily in a controlled indoor shop environment and requires advanced skill with conventional machining equipment, close adherence to tight tolerances, and compliance with federal security and quality standards. The machinist sets up and operates conventional machines to produce precision parts from engineering specifications; interprets complex drawings, defense specifications, GD&T, and routing sheets; selects tooling, fixtures, and raw stock; and calculates machining speeds, feeds, and depth of cut for materials such as stainless steel, titanium, and high-temperature alloys. The role also includes dimensional inspection, routine machine maintenance and troubleshooting, and maintaining material traceability and quality records while following security and classified-material handling procedures. Fairbanks Morse Defense describes itself as a leading marine defense contractor supporting the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Military Sealift Command, and Canadian Coast Guard. It offers training and development opportunities and a competitive benefits package. Employees are expected to perform essential duties competently, with or without reasonable accommodation, provide effective customer service, and work productively as part of a team or work group.
