About The Position

The Manning Undergraduate Research Award supports a motivated undergraduate to assist Prof. Ramsurn with cutting‑edge chemical engineering research during Fall 2026 and Spring 2027. Students will be paid $15 per hour for up to 48 research hours each semester (total $720) and may request up to $800 for materials and supplies throughout the academic year. This position offers hands‑on laboratory experience, data analysis, and professional development through presentations and report writing.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field at The University of Tulsa.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Basic laboratory experience with chemical engineering processes or related coursework.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Excel).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
  • Availability to commit up to 48 research hours per semester (approximately 10 hours per week).
  • Demonstrated interest in research and willingness to learn new techniques.
  • Eligibility to receive the Manning Undergraduate Research Award stipend.
  • Adherence to university policies on research ethics and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews and summarize relevant findings.
  • Perform laboratory experiments and operate standard chemical engineering equipment.
  • Collect, process, and analyze experimental data using appropriate software.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks and electronic records.
  • Prepare weekly progress reports and contribute to final research reports.
  • Present research updates at group meetings and departmental seminars.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Assist in the calibration and maintenance of instrumentation.
  • Document standard operating procedures and experimental protocols.
  • Collaborate with other students and faculty on related research projects.
