About The Position

The Department of Political Science is seeking an enthusiastic and creative undergraduate student to serve as a Student Ambassador. This role aims to strengthen the department’s connections with current students, prospective students, alumni, and the broader university community. The Student Ambassador will support departmental outreach and communications, help promote academic and professional opportunities, contribute to the department’s social media presence, and assist with efforts to engage Political Science alumni. This position offers hands-on professional experience for students interested in communications, public engagement, public policy, law, government, higher education, or community outreach, while helping to build a stronger and more connected student community. The Student Ambassador will work with Political Science faculty and staff to support departmental outreach and engagement activities. This position requires in-person work in the Department of Political Science to assist and collaborate with staff, faculty, and students, including greeting visitors and light phone work.

Requirements

Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at UNM.
A strong written and verbal communicator.
Able to work in-person in the Political Science Department.

Responsibilities

Creating engaging content for departmental social media channels.
Helping maintain a consistent and active social media presence for the department.
Assisting with outreach to current students.
Supporting recruitment and outreach efforts for prospective students.
Serving as a student representative of the department.
Assisting with alumni engagement efforts.
Helping develop student- and alumni-focused communications.
Providing general support for special projects related to student engagement, outreach, and departmental visibility.
Helping promote opportunities and resources for students.
Greeting visitors.
Light phone work.
Other duties as assigned.
