About The Position

The Manning Undergraduate Research Student will join the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Tulsa to assist faculty on cutting-edge research projects. The award provides a $720 stipend each semester (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027) paid at $15 per hour for up to 48 hours of research, plus up to $800 for materials and supplies throughout the academic year. This position offers hands-on laboratory experience, data analysis, and professional development through presentations and report writing.

Requirements

  • Enrolled junior or senior in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Basic experience with laboratory techniques and equipment.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and proper handling of chemicals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis software (e.g., Excel, MATLAB).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Interest in pursuing graduate studies or a career in chemical engineering research.
  • Availability to commit up to 48 research hours per semester.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct laboratory experiments and record data accurately.
  • Analyze experimental results using appropriate software tools.
  • Prepare written reports and visual presentations of findings.
  • Present research progress at weekly group meetings.
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.
  • Assist graduate students and faculty with routine tasks.
  • Perform literature reviews to support project objectives.
  • Develop and refine experimental protocols as needed.
  • Manage and inventory research supplies and materials.
  • Document all work in the department’s electronic lab notebook.
