About the position
We are seeking a Managing Director of Engineering to lead and inspire our team and clients at Able, a product design and development studio. This role requires a natural builder who is driven to create innovative solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping our technical strategy, driving business development and partnerships, and providing cultural and operational leadership. With a focus on continuous improvement and growth, the Managing Director of Engineering will play a crucial role in maintaining our competitive edge and delivering exceptional work.
Responsibilities
- Evolve the definition and implementation of the technical vision at Able
- Codify work methodologies and refine technical focus
- Establish success metrics and develop a growth agenda for continuous improvement
- Identify emerging technologies and trends that align with business objectives
- Foster innovation and maintain a competitive edge
- Drive partner (client) engagements and ignite business growth
- Offer thoughtful solutions during board-level conversations
- Cultivate mutually beneficial relationships and identify strategic partnership opportunities
- Inspire and provide guidance to a team of engineers
- Resolve project-related challenges
- Drive excellence and ensure adherence to best practices
- Review code and have technical discussions with CTO
- Present to non-technical executives
- Support rapid business growth

Requirements
- 10+ years of technology leadership experience
- Extensive hands-on engineering background, ideally in digital agency and enterprise settings
- Comfortable reviewing code or having technical discussions with a CTO and presenting to non-technical executives
- Proven success in supporting rapid business growth
- Relentless pursuit of understanding and learning, applying newfound knowledge to work and life
- Thrives on collaborative synergy, inviting others to feed off of their energy and accountability
- Embraces ambiguity, excels at solving complex problems and driving experimentation
