About The Position

The Managing Attorney will oversee the legal defense of workers’ compensation cases from inception to final resolution, including all aspects of discovery and litigation. In addition to handling an active caseload, the Managing Attorney will lead and mentor a team of attorneys, helping to ensure high-quality legal work, operational efficiency, and professional development across the team. This leadership role works closely with insurance companies, employers, third-party administrators, firm leadership, and litigation teams to drive successful outcomes for clients while fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's and Juris Doctor degrees
  • Member of the State Bar of California, in good standing
  • Minimum 5+ years of workers’ compensation defense experience
  • Prior management, supervisory, or mentoring experience
  • Superior research, analytical, and negotiating ability
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and team management abilities
  • Commitment to proactive case management and client service
  • Experience in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Teams preferred but not required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Merus or Litify is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee a team of attorneys and legal staff
  • Provide mentorship, training, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities for attorneys
  • Oversee case strategy, litigation management, and legal work product to ensure quality and consistency
  • Manage the legal defense of workers’ compensation cases from inception through final resolution
  • Handle all aspects of discovery, depositions, settlement negotiations, hearings, and trial preparation
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on workflow management, staffing, and departmental growth initiatives
  • Maintain strong client relationships and provide exceptional client service
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and developing legal talent
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team culture
  • Ensure compliance with firm policies, procedures, and best practices
