About The Position

The Department of Hospitals & Surgical Health Services establishes the Government of Alberta’s strategic direction for health, including advising government on health policy, legislation and standards, and public health concerns; monitoring and reporting health system performance; setting policies and priorities for the electronic/digital health environment; and providing oversight and ensuring accountability across the health system. This position resides in the Ministry of Hospitals & Surgical Health Services under the Strategic Services and Procurement Division, Strategic Policy and Initiatives Branch.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and subject matter expertise to develop and advance workforce and workplace policies aligned with Ministry and Government of Alberta priorities.
  • Lead and oversee research, policy, and strategy development related to acute care workforce and compensation priorities, including policy and/or legislative reviews and revisions.
  • Monitor Canadian and international trends, innovations, and models to inform evidence-based acute care workforce policy advice.
  • Coordinate strategic workforce policy planning and ensure alignment and integration with related Ministry and cross-government initiatives.
  • Manage issues management processes to ensure timely, proactive, and comprehensive responses.
  • Build and sustain effective working relationships and strategic networks with internal and external stakeholders, including other GoA ministries and health system partners.
  • Support implementation of the Acute Care Action Plan and other workforce action plans, with a focus on workforce resilience.
  • Plan, organize, and participate in stakeholder meetings, working groups, forums, and cross-ministry committees, representing the Unit, Branch, Division, or Ministry as required.
  • Prepare and review briefings, updates, and communication materials for senior leadership, and liaise with Communications and Public Engagement on announcements and correspondence.
  • Provide expert consultation and advice to internal and external stakeholders to support coordinated, high-quality, evidence-based workforce policy development.
