About The Position

North Texas Behavioral Health Authority (NTBHA), based in Dallas, is responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for children, adolescents, and adults with severe mental illness and other serious emotional disturbances, as well as those experiencing a substance use disorder. This position’s actions and work must align with NTBHA values and goals, regulations, policies, and procedures, and meet all documentation standards and regulatory requirements. The Manager of Utilization Management oversees the UM team and manages authorizations and utilization reviews for behavioral health services, ensuring alignment with medical necessities and contract compliance. This position is classified as exempt and requires flexibility in scheduling to meet organizational needs, including adjusting work hours as necessary to ensure job responsibilities are completed.

Requirements

  • Licensed Practitioner of the Healing Arts (LPHA) in the state of Texas, RN, LPC, LCSW or LMFT.
  • At least five years of direct care experience with persons with serious mental illness.
  • Documented training in psychopharmacologic management of serious mental illness and co-morbid medical/psychiatric complications.
  • At least five years of experience participating in treatment teams that develop and monitor treatment plans.
  • At least one year of experience implementing utilization management policies and supervising MH providers.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite skills - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., with an ability to become familiar with company-specific programs and software.
  • Must be able to work on and have knowledge of a PC (personal computer).

Responsibilities

  • Manage the UM team, overseeing daily operations, authorizations, and reviews for behavioral health services.
  • Monitor compliance with contracts entered by NTBHA, including with the State of Texas and local entities.
  • Assist with daily inpatient private psychiatric bed (PPB) funding authorizations, data entry, tracking, and UM staff scheduling.
  • Provide clinical staffing support, supervise UM staff, and chair the NTBHA Quarterly QM/UM Committee.
  • Complete UM Program Self-Assessments as required by HHSC.
  • Attend local and statewide meetings/work groups as requested.
  • Provide community development training as needed.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance with all regulatory standards.
