Manager / Technical Lead

Avanade•Chicago, IL

About The Position

The Manager / Technical Lead is a hands-on technical delivery leader who both leads the team and actively delivers the solution. This is not an oversight-only role: the person is expected to configure, customize, troubleshoot, and implement the system alongside the team while providing technical direction, mentoring team members, and increasing the team's overall capability. The role combines hands-on solution delivery, technical leadership, team development, delivery ownership, and leadership in the use of Copilot and approved AI tools. The Manager / Technical Lead is expected to build with the team, teach while doing the work, own technical outcomes, and leave the team more capable and self-sufficient. Compensation varies based on factors such as office location, role, skill set, and experience. The posting is anticipated to remain open until 12/24/2026. Salary ranges vary by location: California $103,550–$185,200; Cleveland $103,550–$152,000; Colorado $103,550–$152,200; District of Columbia $103,550–$175,750; Illinois $103,550–$170,050; Maine $103,550–$152,000; Maryland $103,550–$152,000; Massachusetts $103,550–$175,750; Minnesota $103,550–$170,050; New York / New Jersey $103,550–$186,200; Virginia $103,550–$152,200; and Washington $103,550–$175,750.

Responsibilities

  • Actively configure and customize the platform as a member of the delivery team.
  • Build and implement complex solution components, integrations, extensions, automation, and other technical capabilities as required.
  • Troubleshoot technical and performance issues and personally assist with their resolution.
  • Participate directly in development, configuration, testing, deployment, and stabilization activities.
  • Take ownership of technically challenging work rather than simply assigning it to others.
  • Use Copilot and approved AI tools to accelerate development, configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and documentation, while validating the quality of AI-assisted work.
  • Translate business requirements into practical solution designs and implementation approaches.
  • Establish architecture, patterns, development standards, and engineering practices.
  • Perform design and code reviews and ensure technical quality.
  • Make pragmatic technical decisions balancing delivery timelines with scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
  • Lead through hands-on participation and demonstration, not just technical direction.
  • Work side-by-side with team members to develop their technical capabilities and coach them through configuration, customization, development, and troubleshooting scenarios.
  • Upskill the team so knowledge and capability are distributed rather than concentrated with the Technical Lead.
  • Delegate appropriately while remaining willing and able to step in and execute.
  • Encourage effective use of Copilot and AI-assisted engineering practices across the team.
  • Create reusable patterns, examples, prompts, and accelerators that help the team become increasingly self-sufficient.
  • Own technical delivery from design through implementation and stabilization.
  • Partner with functional and project leadership on scope, estimates, dependencies, risks, and priorities.
  • Identify technical blockers early and actively work to resolve them.
  • Maintain accountability for technical quality and delivery commitments.
  • Clearly communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to clients and delivery leadership.
