About The Position

The Solar Engineer Manager leads engineering initiatives to optimize the performance, reliability, and lifecycle value of TerraForm Power’s solar assets. This role combines technical expertise, project execution, and team leadership to drive operational excellence across existing facilities while supporting new development, repower projects, and strategic growth initiatives. Partnering closely with Operations, Development, and Asset Management, the Solar Engineering Manager delivers data-driven solutions that enhance generation, reduce risk, and improve cost efficiency. The role also contributes to investment decisions through technical diligence and evaluation of emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred); advanced degree a plus
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in solar engineering, operations, or project development
  • 2+ years of experience leading projects or managing teams
  • Strong knowledge of solar systems, performance optimization, and O&M practices
  • Experience supporting project development, commissioning, and/or repower initiatives
  • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., NEC, OSHA) and modeling tools (e.g., PVSyst)
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with ability to evaluate trade-offs and drive decisions
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead initiatives to improve plant performance, reliability, and energy output across the solar fleet
  • Develop and implement engineering strategies, tools, and processes to optimize operations and maintenance
  • Evaluate new technologies and solutions to enhance asset performance and reduce operating costs
  • Oversee engineering scope for repower, retrofit, and greenfield development projects
  • Coordinate design, engineering, commissioning, and handoff to operations
  • Support RFP development, vendor selection, and technical evaluation of proposals
  • Provide technical input and risk assessment for acquisitions, including equipment condition, performance history, and value creation opportunities
  • Support capital planning and budgeting through engineering analysis and project prioritization
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and internal policies
  • Oversee contract execution and vendor performance to ensure quality and adherence to specifications
  • Support development and continuous improvement of maintenance programs and engineering standards
  • Manage and develop a team of engineers, providing coaching, direction, and performance feedback
  • Set team priorities and ensure alignment with organizational goals
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
