Manager, Software Engineering - Growth Platform

Figma•San Francisco, CA
•$258,000 - $376,000

About The Position

Figma is hiring its first engineering manager for the Growth Platform team. The manager will shape the team’s vision, beginning with its Communications capability. The team has two core missions: enable ten times more growth experiments at quality, and own the shared notification platform that powers notifications and transactional emails across Figma. These capabilities are intended to help teams experiment faster and deliver reliable, personalized communications across Figma products. The role combines team building and people leadership with hands-on technical direction and cross-functional partnership. The manager will hire the initial engineers, establish the team’s culture and engineering standards, guide architecture and build-versus-integrate decisions, and define the evolving platform roadmap based on adoption, impact, and learning. The role is full time and may be based at a US hub or remotely in the United States.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of engineering management experience, with a strong track record of building and shipping application platforms.
  • At least 7 years of software engineering experience at the application or product tier.
  • Experience driving significant impact from small changes and enthusiasm for enabling such outcomes at much greater scale.
  • Strategic insight to optimize impact over both the short and long term.
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, deliver continuous value, and build toward a longer-term platform vision.
  • Track record of prioritizing by impact, leveraging existing assets, and scaling through platform-level thinking.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Marketing, Product, Design, and Data.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at a product-led growth company during a period of multi-product expansion.
  • Experience building platforms that enable non-engineering teams, such as Marketing, Design, or Content, to run experiments or publish content independently.
  • Background in personalization systems, recommendation engines, or ML-driven content selection.
  • Experience integrating with customer data platforms or marketing automation systems, or building user attribute services from product usage data.
  • Familiarity with using AI for quality assurance, brand consistency, or content governance at scale.
  • Experience with internationalization (i18n) and localization (l10n) infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Hire the initial engineers for the Growth Platform team and establish its culture, operating rhythm, and engineering standards.
  • Mentor engineers, create career growth opportunities, and help scale the organization as the team’s scope expands.
  • Build product capabilities—such as personalized messaging, self-service publishing, and cross-system integrations—that enable teams to run growth experiments without engineering bottlenecks.
  • Explore and integrate AI-driven approaches for brand consistency checks, visual quality validation, copy generation, and experiment governance.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership by guiding architecture decisions, reviewing system designs, and making build-versus-integrate choices.
  • Partner with Marketing on cross-channel messaging, with growth teams on platform capability needs, and with product teams to ensure growth messaging supports the end-user experience.
  • Define what to build next based on adoption, impact, and lessons from each phase, shaping the platform vision and evolving roadmap.
