About The Position

Jobber is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to lead engineering teams focused on building software that helps service professionals manage their businesses and understand their financial performance. The role is part of the SP (Service Provider) Operations group, which aims to help Service Providers run their day-to-day operations efficiently and effectively. Jobber's technology enables small home service businesses (plumbers, painters, landscapers, etc.) to quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments, transforming service delivery. Leaders at Jobber emphasize empathy and support for work-life harmony. This specific role will manage the engineering teams for the Jobs & Business Insights domains within the SP Operations Group. The Jobs Team focuses on orchestrating work from start to finish, while the Business Insights team provides real-time visibility into business health and performance. The Manager will collaborate with Product Management, Design, and other Engineering leaders to build tools that help small businesses operate efficiently and grow.

Requirements

  • A track record of success as an established software engineer.
  • Time spent in a leadership position, guiding a team in the delivery of quality software.
  • Strong full-stack technical background, including design and architectural experience.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in either Ruby On Rails environments or ReactJS is essential.
  • A drive to succeed and deliver impactful projects on time.
  • The ability to be agile in an agile environment.
  • Effective written and oral communication.
  • Ability to be a leader and mentor, bringing shared experience to influence and provide constructive feedback.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience with the development stack: ReactJS, Typescript, Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and GraphQL.
  • Previous experience with building zero to one projects from initial discovery and design, through implementation, and into delivery and measurement.
  • Familiarity or comfort in AI tools and AI augmented development rhythms.

  • Manage engineering teams to deliver high quality, on time, while supporting their growth and learning.
  • Help team members set goals, conduct regular 1-on-1s, and provide constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Understand employees' career direction and empower their journey as a mentor and coach.
  • Participate in recruiting events and the hiring process.
  • Work to level up the internal team and implement new processes to develop a world-class engineering department.
  • Remove roadblocks and create and maintain an environment where people can rapidly produce top-quality work.
  • Collaborate with Management teams within Product and Business Technology teams to find the best solutions for small businesses.
  • Live and breathe performance facilitation, helping teams master their crafts and collaborate to build extraordinary experiences and systems.
  • Shape the technical direction of the platform, ensuring reliability and high performance.
  • Lead and teach the team to adapt to change, think critically, and creatively solve problems.
  • Be transparent with the team and establish an open dialogue.
  • Influence and provide constructive feedback to direct reports to ensure goals are met and exceeded.
