Manager, Software Engineering - AI Infrastructure
About The Position
Figma’s AI Infrastructure team builds foundational inference systems for Figma’s AI products, including Figma Make and Figma Agent. The team is responsible for reliable, observable production services that can use the latest models, including the AI gateway, metering systems, trace infrastructure, and strategy for hosting first-party models. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to Figma’s core AI platform as the team grows. The role is for a hands-on engineering leader who will support and grow the team, define and execute its technical strategy, and collaborate across engineering to build AI features. The position can be based at a US hub or remotely within the United States.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of engineering management experience leading high-performing, fast-moving teams; experience in AI is ideal.
- At least 8 years of total engineering experience, ideally reaching staff engineering level as an individual contributor.
- Experience working on production AI systems.
- A proven track record of motivating, mentoring, and growing experienced AI engineering leads.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new AI technologies quickly and build technical depth in a new domain.
- Experience building and scaling engineering teams and organizational structure as they grow.
Nice To Haves
- Experience building AI agents, agent harnesses or loops, or LLM/agent tooling platforms.
- Experience building high-scale production infrastructure, such as traffic or inference systems, metering, anti-abuse, or billing systems.
- A background in adjacent platform domains, such as recommendation systems or networking.
Responsibilities
- Lead, grow, and support a team of engineers building foundational infrastructure for Figma’s AI products.
- Partner with engineering and product leaders across Figma to define the team’s technical strategy and manage day-to-day project execution.
- Hire, coach, and develop senior and staff engineers to scale the team.
- Engage deeply with technical details and decisions as needed to help the team deliver a robust AI platform with urgency.
