About The Position

eBay, Inc. seeks Manager, Software Development 2 in San Jose, CA. This role will build the design and implementation of eBay’s next generation software application platform that powers eBay’s engineering community. The position involves collaborating with fellow engineers, architects, managers, as well as Quality Assurance, Load & Performance, and Operations teams to develop innovative solutions and high-quality products that meet market needs with respect to functionality, performance, scalability, and reliability. Responsibilities include estimating engineering efforts, prioritizing projects, planning implementations, and triaging production issues. The role requires expertise in native Android app development, converting ideas, designs, and requirements to concrete stable production builds, and understanding and implementing Android specific design patterns. The candidate will develop and iterate within a lean, fast-paced Engineering team, and will be responsible for attracting, recruiting, hiring, and retaining a team of native Android engineers, growing them through coaching, mentoring, and one-on-one conversations. The role also involves leading agile development processes, investigating issues, writing code, performing code reviews, prototyping new solutions, and providing expert feedback on code quality, performance, scalability, system architecture, and engineering methodologies. Collaboration with product development and engineering teams across multiple domains and geographies is essential, with a focus on continuous improvement in practices. The manager will advocate for improvements in code and culture and support the team. This role manages a small team of Android engineers. Partial telecommuting is permitted from within a commutable distance.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related field plus five years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • OR Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field plus seven years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.

Responsibilities
