About The Position

Ferrous Processing and Trading (FPT) is one of North America's premier processors, buyers, sellers, and recyclers of scrap metal and a key supplier to the metals industry. FPT is a wholly owned business of Cleveland-Cliffs and has an immediate opportunity for a Software Development Manager at our Detroit, MI Headquarters. The Software Development Manager will lead the team responsible for the development, support, and continuous improvement of enterprise software applications across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in software development, application support, or related technology roles, including leadership or management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software development methodologies, application architecture, system integration, source control, and release management best practices.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the software development team in the design, development, testing, implementation, and support of business applications.
  • Establish development priorities and manage resources to ensure projects, enhancements, and support activities align with business objectives.
  • Partner with business leaders and department managers to understand operational needs and deliver effective technology solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership in application architecture, system integration, development standards, and software development best practices.
  • Oversee application support, maintenance, enhancements, defect resolution, and technical debt reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes, including requirements, design, testing, deployment, and change management.
  • Promote coding standards, source control practices, documentation, quality assurance, and release management procedures.
  • Develop application roadmaps and drive performance, reliability, modernization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and consultants to support business and technology initiatives.
  • Support application security, data integrity, compliance, backup, and disaster recovery requirements.
