About The Position

This role provides Safety leadership and strategic direction by leading the plant’s continuous improvement efforts in Safety. As a key member of the Plant Management Team, this position partners closely with site leadership to strengthen and advance the Safety Management System. The focus is on building a proactive, sustainable, and people-centered safety culture that supports healthy, safe, and efficient operations while aligning with Tyson Foods’ values and expectations. This position plays a critical role in shaping behaviors, attitudes, and daily practices, acting as a change agent to accelerate best-practice sharing across the facility and drive long-term operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or Environmental Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 3 plus years of progressive experience in environment safety and sustainability management preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations OSHA hazard communications accident investigation and safety training methods.
  • Knowledge of industry best practice regarding safety and environmental approaches with PSM RMP safety practices.
  • Standard computer skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general public.
  • Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of a proactive local safety strategy that supports sustainable, healthy, and safe operations
  • Participate in defining and advancing the site’s safety vision, including continuous improvement of existing programs and effective implementation of new initiatives
  • Drive efforts to eliminate, prevent, or reduce safety, health, and medical incidents
  • Direct all site safety programs and recommend new initiatives to reduce accidents and company losses
  • Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives
  • Lead compliance with OSHA regulations and the Tyson Foods Ergonomic Program
  • Inspect machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure OSHA compliance
  • Maintain OSHA files and all supporting documentation
  • Accompany OSHA inspectors during plant inspections and support regulatory interactions
  • Conduct regular reviews of plant operations to ensure compliance with permits, operations, and equipment requirements at the state and federal level
  • Identify potential violations, recommend corrective actions, and ensure timely resolution
  • Analyze accident and incident data to identify trends, root causes, and preventive actions
  • Communicate safety policy and procedure updates to management and leadership teams
  • Ensure all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices are reviewed annually or updated as regulations or practices change, and rolled out in a timely manner
  • Conduct safety inspections and procedural audits in the field and take immediate corrective action when necessary
  • Review safety programs to determine causes, identify corrective actions, and deliver training in areas including ergonomics, emergency response, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment
  • Investigate all safety-related incidents, review reports, and complete required documentation for insurance carriers, risk management systems, and the corporate safety office
