About The Position

The Manager, Safety & Health is a key leadership role responsible for providing strategic guidance, operational oversight, and performance management for a team of safety professionals. This role is responsible for driving the organization’s safety strategy, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a proactive safety culture across all operations. The Manager, Safety & Health provides leadership, direction, and oversight for safety programs and personnel, working cross-functionally to identify risks, implement controls, and continuously improve safety performance. The role partners closely with operations, engineering, and leadership to drive a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and proactively manage risk across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive EHS experience, including 1+ years of leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or high-tech environments preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of occupational health, industrial hygiene principles, and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with radiation safety programs preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with risk assessment tools, incident investigation methodologies, and compliance audits.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to influence without authority and drive cultural change.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of EHS professionals, including setting goals, managing performance, and supporting career development.
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability for safety performance and program execution.
  • Foster a proactive, engagement-driven safety culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Support succession planning and talent development within the EHS function.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NRC as applicable).
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into site-specific policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Lead internal and external audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely reporting of required safety and health data.
  • Oversee occupational health programs including medical surveillance, ergonomics, and employee wellness initiatives.
  • Lead industrial hygiene efforts such as exposure assessments, air monitoring, noise monitoring, and chemical hazard evaluations.
  • Ensure appropriate controls (engineering, administrative, PPE) are implemented and effective.
  • Collaborate with occupational health providers and external consultants as needed.
  • Manage and oversee radiation safety programs in compliance with regulatory and licensing requirements.
  • Ensure proper use, handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials.
  • Coordinate radiation monitoring, dosimetry programs, and required training.
  • Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies on radiation-related matters.
  • Administer fork truck operator training program.
  • Lead or participate in hazard identification, risk assessments, and job safety analyses (JSAs).
  • Ensure implementation of appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
  • Drive continuous improvement through trend analysis and leading indicator metrics.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor program effectiveness through KPIs and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Champion initiatives that improve safety performance, reduce risk, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Support capital projects and process changes through EHS design reviews and risk assessments (e.g., PSSR, MOC).
  • Ensure effective delivery of EHS training programs to employees and leadership.
  • Promote awareness of safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Communicate EHS performance, risks, and initiatives to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Partner with operations, engineering, HR, and other departments to integrate EHS into business processes.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance during process changes, new equipment installation, and facility expansions.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and preparedness activities.
  • Other tasks or initiatives as needed.
