About The Position

The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for developing and managing safety policies, plans, and procedures. This role involves communicating OSHA standards, auditing compliance, and administering workers' compensation claims. The manager will also develop and implement safety training programs, coordinate emergency response, manage hazardous materials communication, and monitor workplace exposures. Additionally, the position involves identifying and communicating world-class health and safety performance, producing safety statistical data, working with the safety committee, managing direct reports, and overseeing contracted security services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety is required.
  • Minimum of 10 years safety, training, or management experience is required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, workers compensation laws, EPA, and industrial hygiene practices.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Able to learn new computer programs efficiently.
  • Previous work experience as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours or overtime as needed.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in safety is preferred.
  • Certified Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop & manage safety policies, plans and procedures
  • Communicate OSHA standards & SOPI requirements.
  • Audit compliance.
  • Worker’s comp claims administration, doctor relations, injury investigation and return to work program.
  • Manage claims processing with insurance carrier.
  • Develop & manage implementation of required safety training programs with in-plant resources and outside contractors.
  • Coordinate emergency response and fire brigade policies, training and drills.
  • Manage hazardous materials communication and training.
  • Monitor workplace exposures to chemicals, dust, noise and electromagnetic fields.
  • Coordinate inspections and maintenance of all fire systems.
  • Identify and communicate world class health & safety performance.
  • Establish plan to achieve this level of performance.
  • Produce safety statistical data for each department.
  • Work with mill wide safety committee and other teams.
  • Manage Safety Specialist, Registered Nurse, and two hourly personnel.
  • Manage contracted security services.
  • Facilitate mill safety training.
  • Other job duties as assigned.
