Manager, Responsible AI Governance (Global Operations AI)

ManulifeToronto, ON
CA$129,400 - CA$179,400Hybrid

About The Position

The Manager, Responsible AI Governance will support Global Operations AI initiatives by operationalizing governance requirements into delivery workflows. You will help teams prepare evidence, documentation, and controls needed for reviews and approvals, and ensure AI solutions meet applicable risk, compliance, privacy, and ethical standards before and after production deployment.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in AI governance, model risk management, compliance, operational risk, privacy, or technology risk in a regulated environment.
  • Practical understanding of AI/ML risks (bias/fairness, explainability, robustness, data privacy) and how governance requirements translate into delivery evidence.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory frameworks applicable to AI in financial services (e.g., OSFI guidelines, privacy legislation, cross-border data requirements).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage a pipeline of concurrent reviews — prioritizing, escalating, and driving to resolution without constant direction.
  • Strong stakeholder management; excellent documentation and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting governance for GenAI and LLM-enabled solutions, including evaluation approaches and monitoring considerations.
  • Familiarity with enterprise governance tools/workflows (risk systems, model registries, documentation automation).
  • Relevant certifications (risk, privacy, compliance, AI ethics) are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Embed Responsible AI and model risk expectations into delivery processes; clarify requirements and timelines for teams.
  • Coordinate collection and quality review of required evidence (data lineage, privacy, documentation, testing results, explainability/fairness assessments, monitoring plans).
  • Own the end-to-end governance intake and clearance pipeline — track all in-flight initiatives through review stages, flag blockers early, and ensure no initiative stalls waiting for approvals.
  • Partner with Risk, Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Technology, and model owners to align controls, document decisions, and track remediation actions.
  • Interpret and operationalize regulatory requirements (e.g., OSFI E-23, privacy impact assessments, cross-border data residency) into actionable delivery guidance for AI teams.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and traceable evidence aligned to enterprise standards.
  • Improve templates, checklists, and guidance to reduce rework and accelerate review cycles without compromising rigor.
  • Identify opportunities to automate governance tasks (evidence packaging, documentation workflows, risk scoring inputs).
  • Maintain awareness of emerging Responsible AI expectations relevant to Operations AI deployments and communicate implications to stakeholders.

Benefits

  • health, dental, mental health, vision, short- and long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance coverage, adoption/surrogacy and wellness benefits, and employee/family assistance plans.
  • various retirement savings plans (including pension and a global share ownership plan with employer matching contributions) and financial education and counseling resources.
  • generous paid time off program in Canada includes holidays, vacation, personal, and sick days, and we offer the full range of statutory leaves of absence.
