About The Position

The Manager, Residential Lending (West) manages end‑to-end residential mortgage operations by leading teams of underwriters and mortgage administrators across multiple offices and portfolios. Holds delegated authority to adjudicate credit applications, ensuring timely decisions within established risk parameters and compliance with AML and ATF requirements.Provides day‑to-day operational leadership through planning, workflow management, performance tracking, and first‑level escalation, while identifying and documenting defects and driving continuous improvement. Partners closely with Quality Assurance on audit and fraud prevention, develops procedures and training materials, supports testing and implementation of new initiatives, and fosters a collaborative, cross‑functional team environment that delivers strong outcomes for stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in residential lending.
  • Minimum of 3 years people management experience in the finance industry.
  • Expert knowledge of the life cycle of a mortgage application from submission to funding.
  • Solid leadership skills, focusing on mentoring and motivating an employee base of professionals.
  • High level of confidentiality and accountability.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritizing, and executing skills.
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Strong focus on service excellence.
  • Solid written and verbal business communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of residential mortgage underwriters and mortgage administrators across all Peoples Group offices and portfolios.
  • Authorize credit applications within delegated authority and ensure that credit applications are adjudicated promptly within acceptable risk parameters.
  • Ensure compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) and anti-terrorist financing (ATF) requirements.
  • Manage the Retention portfolio, which consists of but is not limited to oversight of external partners’ productivity; monitor the insured mortgage portfolio; review loan recommendations for uninsured mortgage renewals.
  • Plan, organize, direct and evaluate daily mortgage operations.
  • Act as the first point of escalation to the team.
  • Collect, track, identify and document defects, suggesting solutions if possible.
  • Liaise with internal Quality Assurance regarding audit and fraud prevention.
  • Develop various documents such as procedures, fact sheets and training material.
  • Conduct testing for the upgrade or implementation of new projects.
  • Monitors and tracks performance and addresses issues, as well as creates and maintains various reports to assist with managing the team’s daily workflow and individual staff performance.
  • Builds interdependent team that collaborates across functional and operating groups to create the highest value for all stakeholders.
