About The Position

Our software solves the most critical emerging grid integration challenges to ensure that the impending energy transition is clean, equitable, and resilient. Our enterprise solutions help the grid absorb the coming electrification wave with ease. Utilizing modern, cloud-native platform architecture and robust systems optimization, WeaveGrid’s software is built from the ground up to tackle the most critical network challenges while meeting the stringent regulatory, security, and reliability requirements of the utility industry. Electric utilities design major EV managed charging and virtual power plant (VPP) programs in line with legislative and regulatory directives and in consultation with their respective regulators. In this role, you will shape and execute our strategy to accelerate EV adoption and other flexible loads to deliver value for our utility customers. This role will be focused on policy and regulatory strategy in one or more subsets/regions of the United States while working hand-in-hand with the business’s leaders to inform WeaveGrid’s strategy and sales priorities. Success in this role will enable a long-term, sustainable pathway for WeaveGrid’s growth. This role will report to the Director of Regulatory Affairs and Market Development and work closely with the business development and the utility solutions team members supporting the region(s).

Requirements

  • BA/BS, or equivalent experience, in law, social sciences, or engineering
  • 5+ years of full-time experience in directly relevant policy and regulatory affairs for electric utilities and/or grid operations
  • Significant domain expertise through industry experience in one or several of the following areas: transportation electrification, managed charging, DER flexibility, power systems, RTOs/ISOs, grid modernization, distribution planning, public utility regulation
  • Proven skill set for: in-depth analysis of energy policy, regulatory writing, and/or state legislative lobbying
  • Demonstrated track record of empathetic leadership, individual initiative, a spirit of inquiry, and solutions-orientation
  • Aptitude to think, communicate, and execute strategically and tactically
  • High attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and excellent work ethic
  • Functions effectively under time pressure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to translate technical information into persuasive narratives
  • Experience prioritizing among competing initiatives and evaluating the strategic value of new regulatory or stakeholder engagement opportunities
  • Ability to work with diverse teams internally and externally and translate between various areas of expertise

Nice To Haves

  • MPA/Masters, JD, or equivalent experience, with focus on energy policy regulations
  • Existing network among stakeholders in electric transportation, demand-side management, and/or grid modernization is preferred
  • Propensity towards remote work with the ability to travel as needed

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute WeaveGrid’s policy and regulatory strategy for the assigned U.S. region(s)
  • Build external alliances and recognize opportunities for the company to build key relationships across stakeholders
  • Write and submit comments for utility regulatory proceedings
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and other convenings as a representative of WeaveGrid
  • Research key regulatory developments to inform business strategy with an outlook of 2-3 years, and conversely, find avenues to influence policy and rule-, and rate-making per the company’s long-term objectives
  • Research detailed regulatory filings, state-level policies, and competitive landscapes to track and support market and business development
  • Collaborate with other business units to support benefit-cost analysis and review program evaluation results and materials
  • Collaborate with the business development team to support beneficial outcomes and secure regulatory approval
  • Assist the business development team in creating high-quality presentation materials on policy outcomes for important utility-client meetings
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for formal and informal influence in the industry and regulatory realm
