About The Position

Under the supervision of the Revenue Cycle Director, the PFS Manager coordinates and facilitates activities among members of the Patient Financial Services team. The manager is responsible for training and developing staff. The manager serves as a mentor, leader, coach and is representative of the culture and core values of Beaufort Memorial Hospital. The manager must demonstrate conceptual skills, human relations skills, administrative skills and technical skills to ascertain that daily processes are in compliance with the organization’s internal policies and procedures and with external regulatory requirements. The PFS Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the Patient Financial Services department to ensure that specific processes and operational functions are performed effectively and efficiently. A focus on maximizing financial performance of the organization as it relates to collecting hospital accounts receivable.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three (3) years of working experience in a healthcare business office setting is required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to lead, coach, and motivate other people.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communications and possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, healthcare or related field is preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare management and overall daily operations of a billing department is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Takes responsibility for the daily operations of Patient Financial Services.
  • Leads the development and performance of all patient financial activities.
  • Ensure that specific processes, practices, and operational functions are performed effectively and efficiently to maximize financial performance of the organization as it relates to collecting hospital accounts receivable.
  • Work with Revenue Cycle Director to coordinate and facilitate activities among members of the Patient Financial Services team.
  • Develops and maintains department policies and procedures.
  • Selects, trains and assigns department staff (either directly or through subordinate managers) and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Develops standards of performance, evaluates performance and completes annual performance evaluations on a timely and thorough basis.
  • Serves as a mentor, leader, coach, and maintains hospital policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance/performance improvement programs and safety standards.
  • Demonstrates the culture and core values as established by BMH.
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand people, and interacts effectively with them.
  • Maintain professional working relationship with members of the billing department, and other employees within the organization involved in the revenue cycle.
  • Ensure that excellent customer service practices are enforced for both our patients, others within our organization and external organizations (i.e. other physician offices or vendors) that interact with the PFS department.
  • Proficient in written and verbal communications.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of the revenue cycle, and overall operational functions of a health care billing department including: billing third party payers, denial management, collection, cash posting and reconciliation, third-party billing practices, compliance and reimbursement, knowledge of billing software, financial assistance and credit balance review and approval and basic medical terminology.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.
