The Patient Access Manager is responsible for 24/7 daily operations, staffing, training, performance, and overall effectiveness of Patient Access functions, including registration, pre-registration, scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorization, financial clearance, admissions, and switchboard operations. This position plays an important role in ensuring accurate and efficient front-end revenue cycle processes while supporting an exceptional patient experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, eligibility, deductibles, coinsurance, out-of-pocket expenses, and benefit exclusions.
  • Working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding concepts.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven healthcare environment.
  • Strong commitment to customer service, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Must meet pre-employment requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of four (4) years of leadership or supervisory experience in healthcare registration, scheduling, insurance verification, Patient Access, patient navigation, or a related healthcare environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Patient Access staff.
  • Manage staffing schedules and ensure appropriate departmental coverage.
  • Oversee registration, scheduling, insurance verification, authorizations, financial clearance, admissions, and related Patient Access functions.
  • Monitor department reports, dashboards, work queues, and key performance indicators.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, accuracy, efficiency, and patient experience.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, payer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • New Hire orientation, training, competency assessments, and ongoing education within the Patient Access department.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex patient concerns and operational issues.
  • Collaborate with clinical departments, physician offices, clinics, Patient Financial Services, and other hospital departments.
  • Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, and quality.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and system implementations or enhancements.
  • Assist with departmental budget management and operational planning.
