About The Position

Kainaiwa Children’s Services Corporation is a growing, dynamic First Nations organization providing programs and services to Blood Tribe children and families in need of support and protection so that they can become positive, healthy contributing members of our community; While maintaining KCSC’s Vision, Mission Statements and incorporating Blood Tribe Traditions through “Kainayssini” the Declaration of the Elders of the Blood Indian Nation. Under the supervision of the Corporate Executive Officer of Kainaiwa Children’s Services Corporation, the Manager is responsible for leadership, supervision, and overall oversight of Prevention and Support Programs in a manner that reflects the Kainai/Blood Tribe Family Preservation Code and the Stawatsimaani “Raising Children” Framework. The Manager supports prevention, family preservation, cultural continuity, and the well-being of children, youth, and families by providing guidance, direction, and accountability to staff; fostering collaborative working relationships; promoting culturally grounded and trauma-informed practice; and ensuring services are delivered in a coordinated, respectful, and community-based manner. In addition to the duties outlined below, the Manager shall perform other related duties as assigned by the Corporate Executive Officer from time to time.

Requirements

Bachelor of Social Work, Degree in Human Services or Management, or a diploma in Social Services combined with five years of progressively responsible related experience, including supervisory and program leadership experience.
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends for occasional activities.
Demonstrated working knowledge of the Blackfoot language.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to support collaborative practice, case planning, and community engagement.
Thorough knowledge of Kainaiwa Children’s Services Corporation programs and services, with a demonstrated understanding of prevention, family preservation, cultural continuity, and collaborative service delivery.
Ability to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate program goals and objectives in alignment with Kainaiwa values, the Family Preservation Code, the Stawatsimaani Framework, and family preservation priorities.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
Confidentiality, professionalism, and respectful information stewardship are essential, including the ability to manage personal and family information with care and cultural sensitivity.

Responsibilities

Provide direct supervision to supervisors and oversight of program budgets, administration, and service delivery to ensure programs are prevention-focused, family-centred, culturally grounded, and aligned with family preservation priorities.
Ensure staff performance standards are met, including culturally respectful practice, relational accountability, timely service coordination, and effective support for children, youth, and families.
Develop and complete performance plans and appraisals for direct reports, including establishing clear expectations, supporting growth and accountability, and documenting progress in a timely manner.
Provide guidance, direction, and support to workers in responding to complex situations using prevention-first, family preservation, kinship, and culturally grounded approaches.
Assign specific duties and areas of responsibility to staff in ways that strengthen coordinated service delivery, accountability, and support for family and community well-being.
Evaluate overall staff performance and provide recommendations to the Corporate Executive Officer, including support for training, mentorship, and continuous improvement in culturally safe and trauma-informed practice.
Monitor caseloads, workload demands, service trends, and operational risks to inform staffing and resource planning; identify and advocate for staffing and training needs, and implement strategies that support prevention, reunification, and family support outcomes.
Foster and maintain respectful, collaborative relationships with staff, families, community partners, and other service providers to support coordinated service delivery and positive outcomes for children, youth, and families.
Participate in the recruitment, selection, orientation, and ongoing development of staff who are committed to Kainaiwa family preservation, cultural continuity, and community-based practice.
Foster a high-performing and engaged team through effective communication, coaching, and professional development.
Assist Kainaiwa Children’s Services Corporation leadership team (Corporate Executive Officer, Finance Manager, Human Resource & Communication Manager) in the development and ongoing refinement of program policies, procedures, and service models that support prevention, family preservation, cultural continuity, and coordinated care.
Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously evaluate Family Preservation and Support programs, policies, procedures, and practices in alignment with the Family Preservation Code, the Stawatsimaani Framework, and Kainaiwa values.
Monitor program outcomes, assess effectiveness, and lead quality improvement initiatives to ensure services remain responsive, culturally grounded, and aligned with the needs of children, youth, and families.
Develop, implement, and evaluate strategic and operational plans, including allocation of financial and human resources to support service priorities and organizational objectives.
Respond to inquiries from clients, community members, and the public regarding the mandates and services of staff under the Manager’s responsibility with clarity, professionalism, and attention to family preservation and cultural safety.
Coordinate case conferences, team meetings, and case reviews in a manner that supports collaborative planning, kinship and family involvement, cultural continuity, and timely access to services.
Provide support and guidance to relevant program and community committees, including those connected to cultural, prevention and family support programming, in alignment with particular attention to programs within the South Central and Calgary Child and Family Services Regions.
