A transportation manager serves as a contact point for all workers within a particular area. This role is responsible for investigating, verifying, and resolving customer or shipper complaints. The manager will oversee daily outbound transportation operations to ensure service and cost targets are met. They will negotiate and manage contracts with LTL, TL, and parcel carriers to optimize performance and spend, and develop and manage the transportation budget, identifying continuous cost reduction opportunities. This role partners with planning and customer service teams to align shipment schedules with customer requirements and utilizes TMS, YMS, and WMS platforms to track shipments, optimize routing, and manage documentation. The manager will lead, coach, and develop transportation team members to drive operational excellence, monitor and analyze key performance indicators, including on-time delivery, cost, damage, and carrier performance, and is responsible for weekly and monthly reports required by the controller. Additional projects/duties to support ongoing business needs may be assigned. The role ensures work is aligned with leaderships’ expectations, goals, and vision, and is accountable for the implementation of policies, processes, and procedures for short-term results. Decisions and problem-solving are guided by policies, procedures, and the business plan, with guidance received from leadership. The role works on difficult to moderately complex issues and projects, and provides guidance and training to subordinates. The manager has the authority to hire, recommend pay, establish performance, and recommend for termination, with signing authority established by company policy/guidelines.
