About The Position

The Manager of Technology and Facilities is responsible for the effective management of the school’s technology resources, space utilization, and property and assets. This role involves close collaboration with the Director of School Operations, the Dean of Academic Operations, and external stakeholders such as NYC Public Schools facilities staff and representatives of co-located schools.

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in IT, systems administration, or other roles with relevant responsibilities is required
  • At least one year of experience in facilities management, basic construction, or other roles with relevant responsibilities is required
  • Familiarity with a wide variety of information technology hardware and software is required
  • Strong organizational skills, detail orientation, and demonstrated ability to effectively plan and execute
  • A proactive approach, problem-solving skills, and a solutions orientation
  • Strong communication skills including the capacity to effectively engage with stakeholders who do not have a background or expertise in technology and to engage with external stakeholders in a productive way
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. is required

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of experience in school or education technology is highly preferred
  • Experience with school environments or other facilities used by young people is preferred
  • Experience with education technology such as student information systems and instructional technology is highly preferred as well as relevant office technology solutions
  • Familiarity with wireless network administration and SaaS/cloud-based technology products is highly preferred
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required
  • CompTIA or other relevant technology certifications are a plus
  • Formal certification or training in facilities management and/or safety is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Manage Chromebooks and other essential classroom technology hardware for use by students and teachers including inventory management and protocols or processes for distribution and access
  • Manage technology hardware used by Innovation staff including distribution and inventory management
  • Provide user support and troubleshooting to all Innovation stakeholders using technology hardware managed by the school
  • Serve as primary owner of maintenance and repair of all technology hardware including any necessary vendor or outsourced support
  • Work to ensure that Innovation’s network is effectively managed at scale and that all school stakeholders have reliable internet access
  • Closely monitor and maintain wired and wireless networks; Interface with cable providers as needed and coordinate with technology vendor for any repair or maintenance that must be outsourced
  • Maintain thorough network documentation and plan for necessary system upgrades, backups or recovery, and other measures to ensure data integrity
  • Serve as primary owner of all school software including management of cloud-based/SaaS technology products, releases, user credentials, and troubleshooting of software issues
  • Collaborate with Dean of Academic Operations and other key staff to manage technical aspects of Innovation’s student information system such as integrations and account management
  • Manage technology products related to the daily functioning of the school such as the PA and digital bell system and coordinate with other staff as necessary
  • Support Innovation staff with managing technical aspects of the school’s essential instructional technology (such as Google Apps for Education) and non-instructional systems (such as the HRIS and financial management systems)
  • Support the Director of School Operations to ensure legal compliance and alignment with best practices in data privacy and security including policy development and evaluation of all third party technology
  • Support Innovation teams and staff with identifying and vetting best-fit technology solutions to meet the school’s needs
  • Serve as Innovation’s resident expert on all things related to school technology and collaborate with the Director of School Operations and other school leaders to determine effective long-term strategy for Innovation’s technology resources
  • Collaborate with Director of School Operations to develop an annual technology budget, track spending, and plan for any multi-year implementations or upgrades
  • Serve as primary liaison to Innovation’s E-Rate grant consultant and work with all necessary stakeholders to plan for appropriate allocation and reimbursement of funds and vendor contracting and management
  • Coordinate with NYCPS facilities and custodial staff to ensure effective space allocation, building maintenance activities, and a clean, safe environment for Innovation students, families, and employees
  • Advise school leaders on financial forecasting/budgeting for effective facilities planning, usage, and maintenance
  • Coordinate formalized assets and inventory management system to ensure property is accounted for and internal controls are in place
  • Serve as liaison to building personnel from co-located schools as well as Cafeteria Staff, School Safety, and NYCPS custodial and facilities staff with support from the Director of School Operations
  • Coordinate with NYCPS custodial and facilities staff and vendors related to any renovations or other work that impacts Innovation’s space or common spaces throughout the building
  • Serve as Innovation’s representative on Building Safety Team and contribute to the Annual School Safety Plan
