Requirements

  • 5+ years of working Registered Nurse (RN) experience in an acute care clinical setting
  • Prior leadership or Nursing Education experience
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, Clinical Specialty or related Health Care Specialty required (will accept candidates currently enrolled in an accredited program)
  • Licensed and currently registered as a professional nurse in New York State
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate the orientation, continuing education and in-service programs for the Department of Nursing.
  • Collaborate and consult with other departments within the hospital to assist with the provision of education programs and projects related to current health issues for employees and the community
  • Assess the educational needs of staff by performing a needs assessment at least yearly, and maintain clinical competency in the area of nursing practice.
  • Confer with Nursing Management Team to determine need for introduction of new skills or evaluation/updating of learned skills.
  • Implement educational programs for all levels of personnel within the nursing department.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to regulatory and accrediting bodies (e.g., The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services), ensuring continuous survey readiness through oversight of staff competencies, credentialing records, and compliance documentation.
  • Promote professional growth in nursing staff and encourages continuation of formal and informal education.
  • Collaborate with schools of nursing to establish student clinical practice contracts.
  • Interpret, maintain, and update Nursing Department policies and procedures in collaboration with Nursing Management and staff.
  • Attend management meetings and other committee meetings to assist with assessment of educational needs.
