About The Position

The Manager of Operations is a key leadership role responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing operational and outreach projects, including field projects. This position ensures compliance with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices while managing contractors and supporting project delivery. The role emphasizes operational excellence, invasive plant management, and effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in environmental science, natural resource management, project management or related experience
  • Pesticide Applicators Certification or willingness to complete PAC training
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in operations, project management, or restoration, including contractor supervision
  • Strong knowledge of invasive plant management and restoration practices
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, timelines, and multi-stakeholder projects
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to remote or project sites as required

Nice To Haves

  • Professional designation such as with BCIA, CAB or FPBC and asset
  • experience with hauling trailers is ideal

Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise contractors for field projects, ensuring quality, timelines, and compliance
  • Oversee project planning and execution, including scheduling, resource allocation, and reporting
  • Apply Best Management Practices (BMP) and ensure adherence to relevant standards
  • Serve as project manager for field and operational projects, ensuring timely execution, delivery, and reporting
  • Co-chair the Joint Occupational Health and Safety committee for the organization and could serve as the Council Safety Officer
  • Maintain and enforce health, safety, and emergency response protocols for all operational activities
  • Ensure staff and contractors hold appropriate certifications and training
  • Participate in risk management and policy development to strengthen operational systems
  • Provide professional oversight on operational activities in compliance with regulatory and ecological standards
  • Apply strong working knowledge of invasive species, especially plants and integrated management strategies
  • Strong effective communication and experience working with First Nations
  • Support operational decisions with sound ecological and technical judgment
  • Oversee development and delivery support of training programs for contractors and staff on safety, invasive species management and best practices
  • Mentor team members and foster a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence
  • Work closely with finance, communications, and engagement teams to align operational goals with organizational priorities
  • Contribute to annual work planning and operational strategy development.
  • Provide support for Board reporting and planning
