About The Position

We are looking for a passionate JEDI subject matter expert and relationship-driven advocacy leader to manage our initiatives across both areas, with oversight of our philanthropic giving program. This individual will collaborate across departments (particularly People & Culture) to steward Burton’s JEDI strategy, while also building employee engagement, education, and activation around public policy. This is a collaborative role for someone energized by bringing people together, turning ideas into action, and helping communities build collective power. This position will report to the Head of Purpose & Impact and will directly manage the Philanthropy & Advocacy Coordinator.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant JEDI program leadership experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in community engagement, organizing, advocacy, customer success, communications, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience managing or supporting large projects with a record of successfully initiating and furthering strategies and best practices, working with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Experience designing and delivering JEDI learning and development content and experiences
  • Demonstrated interest in advocacy campaigns and systems change
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively
  • A passion for helping people connect around shared goals
  • Fluency across JEDI practices related to gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, and physical ability
  • Understanding of advocacy organizing strategies and modalities.
  • Proven track record informing recruiting strategies to increase diversity
  • Proven track record in developing strategies to increase inclusion & belonging, resulting in strong retention
  • Excellent project/program management skills
  • Experience setting up tracking and measurement systems, and reporting results
  • Experience managing a suite of initiatives (vs. one project at a time)
  • Experience managing projects with peer-level stakeholders
  • Highly collaborative, relationship builder: proven ability to successfully approach, build trust, listen, and negotiate across a wide range of stakeholders
  • Ability to influence people: ability to reach beyond immediate scope to influence and lead change initiatives with multiple stakeholders; galvanizes others into action around building more diverse and inclusive environments
  • Highly effective written and verbal communicator: clearly and concisely articulate complex ideas, unique concepts, and proposals to enroll team, peers, and members

Responsibilities

  • Steward, and continually evolve and improve, Burton’s JEDI strategy and its impact
  • Build and program manage JEDI initiatives
  • Drive program objectives through defined project plans; manage implementation activities, and develop processes, documentation, and communications for program/process rollout and ongoing support
  • Communicate new/updated programs, policies, and processes to leaders, members, and cross-functional teams
  • Develop and improve tracking, measurement, and reporting strategies with the People & Culture team for the JEDI strategy and all initiatives.
  • Leverage results to inform program improvements, influence organization-wide decision making, and demonstrate impact
  • Act as a JEDI subject matter expert by contributing perspective, insights, and knowledge
  • Engage in the identification of JEDI best practices, benchmarks, and certifications as input to designing and implementing initiatives
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to embed JEDI principles and practices across the organization
  • Partner with relevant teams to embed JEDI practices across Talent, Performance Management, Employee Engagement, and Organizational Culture to enable diversity, uphold a culture of inclusion & belonging, and create a fair and equitable work environment
  • Engage departments across the organization to embed JEDI in their functions, particularly supporting department leads in delivering organizational diversity and inclusion goals
  • Engage staff and members and increase awareness and understanding of JEDI as a business imperative
  • Uphold and evolve processes and systems to hold leaders accountable in delivering JEDI within their teams, departments, and scope of work
  • Manage and build relationships with Burton’s advocacy partners.
  • Organize employee engagement opportunities across Burton’s advocacy focus areas of Climate Action and Defending Democracy
  • Explore opportunities and develop strategies to expand advocacy work to our global regions
  • Drafting action alerts and advocacy campaigns via social media, email, and website
  • Supporting testimony and storytelling opportunities
