Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related fields and/or social work counseling from an accredited university and/or 5 years of Organ Procurement Organizational experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience in professional health-care environment.
  • Knowledge of regulations related to organ donation (Joint Commission, CMS, AATB, FDA, OPTN) required.
  • Knowledge of organ, tissue and eye donation process required.
  • 3 years of previous supervisory and/or administrative call experience.
  • Ability to assess situations and people and respond in a professional manner.
  • Skill in presenting information to various audiences in an engaging and professional manner.
  • Ability to initiate interpersonal interaction with hospital staff and develop ongoing positive relationships.
  • Communicates job responsibilities and expectations to assure desired results.
  • Ability to be on call and work extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Daily management and oversight of hospital system team, including identification of training and/or development opportunities, review of personal goals and performance evaluation.
  • Ensures the necessary compliance training is completed by the team.
  • Constructively coaches and develops staff to seek optimal performance and promote effective leadership.
  • Ability to travel to diverse locations to deliver services.
  • Knowledge of hospital/facility infrastructure.
  • Ability to prioritize based on emergent needs.
  • Current valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to Family Services Coordinators.
  • Manage and coach Family Services Coordinators and clinical staff in approaches with next of kin for organ, tissue, and eye (O/T/E) donation.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Manage all aspects of the employment cycle (interview, onboard, training, discipline, performance management, and offboarding).
  • Collaborate with the quality team to review audits and address deficiencies.
  • Participate with the healthcare team during end-of-life discussions with next of kin and/or significant others of potential and registered O/T/E donors.
  • Provide/seek training to ensure staff is current on required training for their roles quarterly.
  • Ensure staff provides informed authorization or disclosure to all donor families or agents.
  • Perform monthly audits of reports to monitor department and individual goals.
  • Maintain the ability to conduct a comprehensive medical social history interview with the next of kin, significant others, and/or healthcare professionals of potential organ and tissue donors in compliance with regulations and Lifebanc policies, and provide support to donor families during the donation and recovery process.
  • Complete the electronic Donor Risk Assessment Interview (DRAI) per Lifebanc policies and standards.
  • Complete accurate reporting and documentation during shift change to ensure donor families remain supported.
  • Oversee and provide corrections/review/completion of donor charts.
  • Ensure team coverage and support for donor families on-site at the hospital during the donor case.
  • Ensure all staff completes mandatory consent training quarterly and annual competency as required.
  • Collaborate with key hospital staff members in real-time on all active referrals and/or cases.
  • Conduct individual/departmental huddles and meetings with staff.
  • Ensure all departmental responsibilities are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Supervise donor family outcome letters and complete quarterly audits for compliance.
  • Assist in the development and day-to-day management of the departmental budget.
  • Review and approve schedules, timecards, PTO requests, expense reports, and purchase orders for direct reports.
  • Provide data and reporting support for departmental scorecards and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Participate in policy review, development, and implementation of new procedures and guidelines.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
