About The Position

Kaukauna Utilities is seeking an experienced, hands-on electrical engineering professional to manage engineering and project management work supporting its electric and water utility operations. This working manager combines technical engineering, project management, and staff leadership, remaining directly involved in engineering work while providing direction to engineering staff. The role contributes to the reliability and future of community infrastructure at a municipally owned utility.

The manager performs and oversees engineering studies, system planning, design, and construction documentation for electric and water infrastructure projects, coordinating with consultants and contractors. The role leads projects from planning and design through construction and completion, overseeing schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables. It also coordinates construction activities and stakeholders, supports field crews in troubleshooting and evaluating system needs, and develops practical, safe, and cost-effective engineering solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Five or more years of engineering experience, preferably in the utility industry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in utility infrastructure and engineering design, with strong technical problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects, meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and provide technical direction to others.
• Willingness to work collaboratively with field crews and remain actively involved in engineering and operational challenges.
• Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

• Municipal utility experience.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or project management certification.
• Experience with electric distribution systems, substations, system planning, and water distribution infrastructure.
• Proficiency with GIS, AutoCAD, or similar engineering tools, and familiarity with utility regulations.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee engineering studies, system planning, design, and construction documentation for electric and water utility infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate with consultants and contractors.
• Lead projects from planning and design through construction and completion, managing schedules, budgets, resources, and deliverables.
• Coordinate construction activities, manage competing priorities, and monitor project progress.
• Collaborate with field crews, City departments, developers, and other stakeholders to support timely project completion.
• Work with field crews and utility staff to troubleshoot issues, evaluate system needs, and develop practical, safe, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
• Provide technical guidance, day-to-day direction, and supervision to engineering staff while remaining actively involved in engineering and project work.
