About The Position

Brooklyn Justice Initiatives offers people an opportunity to change the direction of their lives. The program transforms how people navigate the legal process of criminal court in Brooklyn, NY, and helps them avoid the harmful effects of incarceration. It provides meaningful early diversion, supervised release for people awaiting trial, and alternative sentencing options. Brooklyn Justice Initiatives is seeking a Manager of Court Operations & Compliance. Reporting to the Deputy Project Director, Manager of Court Operations & Compliance will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, guiding a team of Resource Coordinators, and ensuring efficient collaboration with other managers and court stakeholders. This role will oversee staff that are responsible for reviewing all available information about each potentially eligible case to determine eligibility for all BJI programming. The Manager of Court Operations & Compliance is also responsible for organizing and providing court coverage to various Criminal and Supreme Court parts, including specialized court initiatives. The manager would also play a pivotal role in court reporting and data management, working closely with defense attorneys, the compliance team, and research departments to provide accurate program updates and ensure timely reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree + two years of relevant experience in a criminal court setting
  • Willing and able to work collaboratively with a variety of court personnel and partner agencies in a high-pressure/fast-paced work environment
  • Open to constructive engagement with differing and, at times, competing perspectives
  • Professional demeanor and ability to communicate appropriately with judges and other court personnel
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal, communication and writing skills required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite, Outlook, Zoom, and Slack

Responsibilities

  • Provide weekly supervision to Resource Coordinators, Compliance Specialist(s), and interns, including coaching, performance management, and professional development;
  • Facilitate regular team meetings to support communication, alignment, and problem-solving;
  • Develop and maintain staffing and coverage rotations across Criminal and Supreme Court parts to ensure consistent program presence;
  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring effective service delivery, workflow management, and issue resolution;
  • Collaborate with diversion leadership to identify, develop, and implement policy and operational improvements to increase efficiency, clarity, and consistency across teams;
  • Monitor team performance, identify trends, and implement strategies to address gaps and improve outcomes;
  • Provide real-time decision-making and escalation support for complex cases, operational challenges, and stakeholder concerns.
  • Assess and refine onboarding processes, training materials, and workflows to ensure operational readiness and consistency;
  • Identify training needs and develop structured onboarding plans for new hires;
  • Design and implement ongoing professional development opportunities to strengthen staff skills and subject matter expertise;
  • Lead and facilitate trainings for new and existing staff, including court processes, program eligibility, and documentation standards;
  • Support staff in building competencies in engagement, assessment, and court-based communication;
  • Ensure cross-training across programs to promote flexibility and coverage capacity.
  • Collaborate with defense attorneys and court stakeholders to identify individuals eligible for ATI programming and support diversion opportunities;
  • Provide clear, timely written and verbal updates to the court, including compliance reports, status updates, and program recommendations;
  • Partner with Compliance and Clinical teams to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality of all court reporting;
  • Oversee data entry, integrity, and auditing across systems (e.g., Salesforce, UCMS), ensuring completeness, accuracy of client records, conducting routine audits;
  • Support data tracking, reporting, and analysis to inform program operations and stakeholder communications;
  • Collaborate with the Center’s Research team on program evaluation, data collection improvements, and reporting requirements;
  • Ensure proper documentation of assessments, screenings, referrals, and outcomes in accordance with program standards.
  • Serve as a primary liaison to prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges, court staff, and other stakeholders regarding program eligibility, referrals, and participant progress;
  • Support the senior leadership with stakeholder engagement, presentations, and trainings for court partners;
  • Represent the program in arraignment and other court parts to facilitate referrals and support diversion opportunities;
  • Conduct intakes, screenings, and eligibility assessments for individuals referred to ATI services;
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with court partners to support program utilization and collaboration;
  • Support participant engagement by addressing barriers to participation and facilitating connections to services;
  • Oversee processes for tracking participants, including those with warrants or compliance concerns, and coordinate follow-up as needed.
  • Collaborate with ATI and diversion teams to ensure alignment, cross-program coordination, and shared best practices;
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new programs, initiatives, and service models (e.g., same-day diversion, pilot programs);
  • Identify operational challenges and propose solutions to improve workflows, communication, and service delivery;
  • Support implementation of internal systems and protocols (e.g., Slack workflows, reporting timelines, intake processes);
  • Assist in resource planning, including staffing, scheduling, and service capacity considerations;
  • Participate in strategic planning efforts and contribute to program growth and sustainability.
  • Support the development, implementation, and piloting of new diversion initiatives, including assisting with workflow design, stakeholder coordination, and early-stage program evaluation to inform scalability and continuous improvement.
  • Attend and actively participate in all required staff meetings, trainings, and supervision;
  • Participate in agency and community events, including those outside standard business hours, as needed;
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and adherence to organizational policies and court protocols;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program and organizational needs.
