About The Position

COSI believes science is for everyone. Community engagement is central to how COSI connects people with science, expands access to learning opportunities, and builds relationships that strengthen the region's STEAM ecosystem. This role helps bring that vision to life by ensuring programs run effectively, partnerships grow, and communities see themselves reflected in the experiences COSI creates. The Manager of Community Engagement supports implementation of COSI’s Science is for Everyone plan by managing partnerships and executing community-based programs and events. The role leads program logistics and hands-on delivery for initiatives including The Color of Science™ and Passport to STEAM Futures, and serves as COSI’s on-the-ground representative at community events, schools, and partner activations.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in program coordination, event planning, community engagement, or nonprofit programming, with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate across teams and manage multiple initiatives
  • Comfortable representing an organization in community-facing environments

  • Experience working with community partners or stakeholder groups
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM systems
  • Experience supporting event logistics or public programming
  • Interest in STEAM education or community engagement
  • Some college coursework or degree in a related field

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate logistics and execution for COSI’s community engagement programs, including The Color of Science™ and Passport to STEAM Futures.
  • Lead day-of execution for The Color of Science™ and Passport to STEAM Futures, including setup, program flow, participant support, and breakdown
  • Plan and manage program logistics, materials, scheduling, and cross-team coordination
  • Coordinate outreach with scientists, speakers, and program participants
  • Maintain program contacts and engagement activity in Salesforce
  • Track program budgets and expenses
  • Manage a portfolio of community organizations supporting COSI engagement goals
  • Serve as the on-the-ground lead for COSI at community events, schools, and partner gatherings, delivering programs and engagement experiences
  • Support inclusive and accessible program delivery across on-site and community settings by implementing accommodations and engagement strategies that reduce barriers for diverse audiences, in collaboration with the broader COSI team and volunteers
  • Execute COSI activations in the community, including setup, operation, troubleshooting, and breakdown of engagement stations
  • Lead and coordinate volunteers and partners in real-time program delivery
  • Build partnerships that support community engagement and volunteer recruitment
  • Track partnership activity and engagement in Salesforce
  • Maintain a community engagement dashboard tracking impact and outreach
  • Monitor participation and engagement metrics across programs
  • Prepare internal updates and summary reports on program impact
  • Help deliver welcoming, inclusive science experiences for guests of all ages
  • Provide operational staffing support for on-site programs and demonstrations (typically 5–10 hours per week, depending on program cycles)
  • Assist with public programs, shows, and special events
  • Participate in cross-organizational meetings and initiatives
  • Represent COSI’s mission and values in internal and external interactions
  • Provide excellent guest service and support safe, welcoming visitor experiences
