Position Summary The Director of Community Engagement leads and manages the strategy and execution of volunteer services and broader community engagement efforts at Jewish Family Service. This role ensures that the agency’s presence in the community is impactful, coordinated, and mission-aligned. In addition to overseeing all volunteer engagement functions, the Director is responsible for enhancing JFS’s community visibility through events and outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a certified college or University
  • 3+ years of proven leadership and management skills
  • 5+ years of project management experience
  • Database experience (VolunteerHub a plus)
  • Experience in program development and public speaking
  • Strong skills in administration, coordination, communication and interpersonal relationships
  • Strong computer skills for maintaining a database and design of creative flyers, invitations, and programs for events
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, training, and retention efforts
  • Supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator and other volunteer-focused team members
  • Lead recognition efforts and appreciation events for volunteers throughout the year.
  • Oversee volunteer compliance, recordkeeping, and background checks in alignment with agency policy
  • Represent JFS at community events and speaking engagements to promote volunteerism and agency services
  • Develop and implement a process for assessing and coordinating community fairs and outreach events, including an Ambassador program
  • Ensure consistent and mission-aligned agency representation in all external engagements
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with schools, faith-based institutions, corporate and community volunteer groups
  • Lead planning and execution of key agency events such as MLK Day of Service, Community Impact Celebration, Holiday Package Delivery, Holiday Market, Community Leadership Breakfast and Open House.
  • Serve as a support staff member for fundraising and stewardship events.
  • Oversee the operation of all volunteer programs in conjunction with other staff
  • Regular maintenance of VolunteerHub database
  • Track volunteer program metrics to report for grants, upon request, and to develop monthly, quarterly, and annual reports
  • Track and monitor community engagement efforts and adjust strategies based on impact and feedback
  • Foster a collaborative culture of engagement and communication of internal teams
  • Serve as of leader of the Community Engagement committee and on other agency committees, as assigned
  • Understand and plan to departmental and agency budget
  • Oversee the quality of service so that it is of the highest standard and is culturally relevant to the clients served
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the agency
