About The Position

The Director of Community Engagement will oversee the development and implementation of BPHC’s Transformational Community Engagement Policy which promotes the advancement of health equity and racial justice by sharing decision-making power with communities, ensuring they have a measurable influence on the policies and practices that affect their lives and that lead to sustained systems and structural change.

Requirements

Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Policy Administration, or a related discipline such as Sociology or Health Communications, plus at least 5 years of equivalent professional work experience required; OR BA/BS plus 7 years of equivalent professional work experience in areas such as public health program management, community engagement and/or community organizing.
Knowledge of the history of racism and its impact on the Social Determinants of Health and health outcomes.
Commitment to health equity and racial justice issues.
Experience working in public health, healthcare, social service or a government agency.
Strong administrative and project management skills.
Must be a self-directed, detail-oriented individual with excellent oral and written communication, critical thinking, and follow-through skills.
Experience in event planning (in-person and virtual) and use of virtual platforms including Zoom, Teams, etc.
Experience designing health-promoting messages including flyers, infographics, PowerPoint etc., using Canva, Adobe, or other platforms.
Extensive knowledge of equitable community engagement principles and practices.
Strong leadership and facilitation skills in multiple settings including meetings, group training, etc.
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and modern-day social media platforms.
Ability to work well with diverse people in diverse settings in a manner that builds trust and increases collaboration and partnership.
Familiarity of Boston's neighborhoods, particularly neighborhoods that have been historically marginalized.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and/or weekends.

Supervisory experience is a plus.
Bilingual/bicultural is a plus.

Responsibilities

Facilitate the development, implementation, and update of BPHC’s Transformational Community Engagement Policy, and all associated strategies and tools.
Provide support and technical assistance to BPHC’s bureaus, departments, and offices as needed to develop and implement their transformational community engagement plans.
Oversee and facilitate BPHC’s cross-departmental transformational community engagement coordinating team.
Oversee the formation of external advisory groups and BPHC’s all staff employee resource groups and facilitate members’ involvement in BPHC’s decision-making processes where applicable.
Oversee the planning and execution of BPHC’s all-staff culture of belonging celebratory events.
Oversee the development of equitable community engagement curricula and facilitate training to BPHC staff, other city departments, and collaborative partners.
Serve as lead point of contact for all community engagement evaluation, reporting, and tracking requirements including Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), the BPHC Strategic Plan, Anti-Racism Policy etc.
Co-plan and execute external equity-centered community events. Represent BPHC on internal and external committees, work groups, and conferences as requested.
Work to help BPHC advance as an antiracist organization by meeting or exceeding the standards set by BPHC’s Anti-Racism Policy.
Model and implement BPHC’s Core Values in daily work and interactions with colleagues, clients, and community partners.
Work in a confidential capacity. Operate independently. Use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions affecting the department and staff as it relates to unit operations/services and BPHC policy. Make and recommend management and personnel decisions for, including but not limited to promotion, transfer and assignment of staff, and imposition of discipline.
Perform other duties as assigned.
