About The Position

The Climate Change Manager will provide the necessary support to ensure climate change adaptation and mitigation for the Cree Nation Government and the Cree Nation. The incumbent is also responsible for researching, planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, monitoring and coordinating projects related to climate change. This includes collaborating and reaching out to all pertinent internal and external parties to guarantee project advancement, proper management, and coordination with local authorities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Five to eight years of relevant work experience.
Fluency in English.
Fluency in French.
Knowledge of project management, climate change and northern issues.
Good knowledge of available funding initiatives and procedures.
Strong organizational and research skills and the ability to coordinate multiple projects.
Proven ability to problem-solve, to think analytically, and to take initiative.
Ability to work well independently.
Proven success in maintaining strong communications and working relationships.
Proven ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality.
Proven ability to demonstrate strong judgment in complex situations.
Proven ability to problem-solve, to think strategically, and to take initiative.
Demonstrated ability to work under significant pressure and to adapt to a changing environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and GIS software (ArcGIS and/or other).

Nice To Haves

Experience in project management in a northern context an asset.
Fluency in verbal Cree is an asset.

Responsibilities

Improve climate change literacy across Eeyou Istchee.
Support and promote the Cree Nation Government's climate change related initiatives.
Develop a strategic plan to tackle climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Oversee the greenhouse gases emissions internal audit.
Develop a mitigation action plan for the Cree Nation Government, fix targets and monitor their achievement over time.
Provide local governments with specific technical support relating to climate change mitigation practices and adaptation projects.
Support and collaborate with the other departments of the Cree Nation Government and Cree entities.
Develop, recommend, implement, and evaluate policies and programs to promote climate change mitigation and adaptation throughout Eeyou Istchee.
Conducts research, investigates alternative solutions, and develops solutions on issues impacted by climate change.
Coordinate the implementation of special projects within the organization related to the Provincial Green Economy Plan.
Identify and provide support to the Director to secure funding from governments and other sources related to climate change files.
Ensure effective promotion of activities, agreements, and programs across the Cree Communities, to build awareness on climate change.
Support communities in climate leadership and funding initiatives.
Promote positive relations and concerted action with all external actors/partners, e.g., Cree communities, municipal governments, other Cree entities, etc.
Participate in the elaboration of communication and representation strategies as related to climate change issues.
Keep up to date on all laws, regulations and directives related to climate change.
Review policy and legislative changes related to climate change proposed by the Quebec and Canadian governments.
Prepare analytical reports and supporting documents for Director and provide administrative support as requested.
Supervise and lead direct reports.
In conjunction with the Director, assist with development of individual objectives and ensure that performance is aligned with team and individual objectives.
Identify training needs, recommend solutions, and support training and development.
Conduct periodic performance evaluations for direct reports.
Promote ongoing, effective and open communication with employees. Keep staff members informed of decisions that impact them and/or their department.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in area(s) of responsibility.
Perform other duties as required.
