About The Position

Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183-bed acute care and residential facility with over 30 years of experience in providing behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents. The facility offers acute programs, adolescent residential programs, and programs for active duty military. Located in Petersburg, Virginia, on 25 acres, the serene setting aims to provide a calm and peaceful environment for patients. The hospital is seeking a Manager of Admissions to oversee all assessment and referral activities, provide direction to staff for psychiatric assessment services, clinical evaluations, crisis intervention, and referrals. This role requires close collaboration with medical staff, department heads, administration, the business office, and utilization management staff. Hours will vary, requiring flexibility in availability. The position is with Poplar Springs Hospital, a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS).

Requirements

  • MS degree required in counseling, psychology or related social services field.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities.
  • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
  • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions.
  • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical Licensure in Commonwealth preferred or license eligible
  • CPR Preferred (offered on-site)
  • Handle With Care Preferred (offered on-site)
  • Minimum of two years experience in direct patient care preferred.
  • Must have course work, training, and/or experience in patient population of assigned program (adult/adolescent), and must demonstrate developing technical and managerial competence in position responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all assessment and referral activities for the facility.
  • Provide direction to staff for psychiatric assessment services, clinical evaluations, crisis intervention, and referrals.
  • Work closely with the medical staff, department heads, administration, business office, and utilization management staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
