About The Position

Freire Schools is a network of four charter schools across Philadelphia and Delaware with a mission to prepare students from historically underserved communities for success in college and beyond. The Manager of Academic Supports position is for Freire Charter School Wilmington, a high school (8th-12th Grade) focused on ensuring students graduate from both high school and college. This role is key to driving school culture, student engagement, and academic success. The manager will lead academic intervention systems, culture supports, and manage the 21st Century After-School Program. The ideal candidate is a proactive individual energized by building systems and serving as a steady, trusted presence for students and families.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 3+ years of experience working in urban schools or youth-serving organizations, with a track record of building positive student culture
  • Deep understanding of restorative justice, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive behavior systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple systems and priorities in a fast-paced school environment

Nice To Haves

  • Background in education, counseling, social work, or a related field strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the 21st Century After-School Program, collaborating with out-of-school time staff to maintain consistent expectations and smooth transitions for students
  • Create and implement school-wide culture systems that promote safety, consistency, equity, and community
  • Support staff in proactive behavior management and restorative practices
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for high-level student behavior concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions
  • Partner with the student support team and teachers to implement Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavior interventions
  • Support students who are struggling academically or behaviorally, including developing and implementing behavior plans and proactive strategies to set them up for success
  • Serve as a point of contact for families regarding student support needs
  • Manage and run the after-school program (3:15–5:00 PM), ensuring day-to-day operations run smoothly
