About The Position

UMHC - SCCC - Nutrition Services has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Nutrition Services position. The incumbent oversees work standards and sanitation and safe food practices for assigned division(s). Additionally, the Manager, Nutrition Services directs and provides nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy to help customers achieve their health goals. Furthermore, the incumbent provides mentorship, guidance, and education to staff and customers on matters related to nutrition. The Nutrition Services Manager, functions as an integral member of the oncology interdisciplinary team by leading and overseeing evidence-based nutrition interventions that align with the medical goals of oncology patients across the continuum of care. The Manager provides leadership, supervision, and strategic direction for the nutrition team, ensuring services are high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-centered. This role works closely with the Director of Nutrition and Wellness to establish, develop, and revise goals, policies, and evidence-based clinical practice standards. Assesses and monitors departmental performance and keeps the Director of Nutrition and Wellness abreast of status performance indicators. The Manager responsibilities include recruitment, interview, hiring, orientation, mentoring and regular rounding with nutrition team members. This role incorporates program development, staff supervision, tracking outcomes, performance reviews, and operational oversight, alongside implementing and monitoring quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives. The Manager also serves as a subject matter expert and institutional resource on oncology nutrition, promoting best practices through program innovation, participation in interdisciplinary initiatives, and sharing knowledge via education, outreach, and professional development. Supports a high level of service excellence, clinical competence and professional development for staff. The position is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating individualized nutrition interventions and group programs for oncology patients, through direct patient care in person and virtually, ensuring compliance with evidence-based guidelines and safety protocols for complex clinical populations. The Nutrition Services Manager collaborates closely with disciplines under Cancer Survivorship and Supportive Care Institute—including Exercise Physiologists, Yoga Therapy, Massage Therapy, Art Therapy, and others—to deliver coordinated supportive care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field
  • Dietitian/Nutritionist License (LDN)
  • CDR Certification
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
  • Current state licensure in field required (LDN- Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist)
  • Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition
  • Board certified in relevant specialty or field (CSO- Certified Specialist in Oncology Nutrition or CNSC- Certified Nutrition Support Clinician)

Responsibilities

  • Conducts audits to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Represents department as nutritional expert and actively participates in meetings.
  • Plans and modifies menus to meet special patient dietary needs.
  • Researches and prepares detailed analysis and reports for special projects.
  • Ensures adequate department staffing at all times and trains and supervises staff members.
  • Develops, implements, and follows-up on nutritional goals and care plans.
  • Maintains current knowledge of best practices concerning nutrition.
  • Formulates and implements performance improvement programs.
  • Analyzes financial impact of changes in activities and forecasts actual revenue and expenditures versus approved budget.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
  • Participates in recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, orientation, and competency validation for new hires.
  • Hires, supervises, mentors, coaches, and provides leadership and professional oversight for Oncology Registered Dietitians.
  • Determines staffing assignments, workload distribution, and ensures adequate coverage based on census, acuity, site demand, and clinic volume.
  • Conducts routine rounding with dietitians to assess needs, provide real-time coaching, and maintain team awareness of operational priorities.
  • Reviews staffing levels regularly and partners with the Director to optimize productivity, efficiency, and equitable distribution of patient care.
  • Oversees scheduling of nutrition coverage for ambulatory clinics.
  • Steps into coverage directly when needed to maintain continuity of services and prevent care delays.
  • Ensures staff documentation, timeliness of notes, clinical care delivery, and productivity expectations meet institutional standards.
  • Communicates regularly with the Director of Nutrition and Wellness regarding operational status, patient access challenges, quality metrics, and performance indicators.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary leaders to resolve workflow issues, align departmental standards with clinical practices, and maintain smooth transitions of care.
  • Leads the development, revision, and maintenance of nutrition clinical practice guidelines, diet manual content, nutrition support protocols, formulary recommendations, and educational resources.
  • Ensures alignment with oncology regulatory standards, oncology nutrition scope of practice, and evidence-based guidelines.
  • Maintains and ensures dietitians maintain competency in oncology-specific nutrition care and complex case management, including EN/PN management, symptom management, and treatment-induced toxicities.
  • Provides ongoing leadership, guidance, education, coaching, structured skills development, and internal training to elevate clinical practice.
  • Contributes to departmental goals, strategic planning, and budget development.
  • Builds a culture of collaboration, accountability, clinical excellence, and innovation within the nutrition team.
  • Recognizes and develops staff strengths, advancing professional growth through mentorship and performance enhancement.
  • Leads, implements, and evaluates quality improvement initiatives aligned with institutional priorities.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports metrics including but not limited to referral and visits volume, completion rates, access timelines, documentation compliance, readmission-risk association, and patient experience.
  • Uses outcome data to identify performance gaps and drive system-level nutrition improvement.
  • Serves as an institutional and department resource to ensure continuity of care for patients requiring nutrition intervention.
  • Collaborates with leadership, clinical teams, providers, survivorship, supportive care, transplant, and infusion services to embed nutrition into treatment workflows.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary process redesign and care-mapping initiatives to expand nutrition impact across the cancer center.
  • Conducts staff meetings, clinical case review, journal discussions, and program training sessions.
  • Provides structured onboarding, clinical pathways, and assessment tools for skill development.
  • Maintains and supports specialty certification (CSO, CNSC) and team growth toward advanced practice competency.
  • Provides direct patient care in person and via telehealth following evidence-based practice guidelines.
  • Step in to support coverage at satellites overseen when needed, based on patient care and operational needs.
  • Attend meetings, programs, and events across Sylvester sites, based on operational needs and in line with leadership expectations for her role.
  • Responds to evolving needs and institutional priorities, including cross-site coverage, clinical leadership requests, and operational escalations.
  • Maintains flexibility with role responsibility as Oncology Nutrition services expand across the health system.
