About The Position

The Nutrition Services Manager supervises Dietitians across the SEARHC consortium, providing medical nutrition therapy for patients of all ages and various medical diagnoses. This role involves supporting staff with diabetes knowledge, planning, organizing, supervising, and coordinating the work of Dietitians and other professional staff. The manager directs and reviews work plans, monitors workflow, evaluates work products, and ensures compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulations. Key responsibilities include managing budgets for all aspects of Nutrition Services, translating complex regulations from the Joint Commission (TJC) and state/federal standards into practice, and overseeing the contract relationship with Aramark. The position requires collaboration with Aramark Dietitians and contracts at Sitka and Wrangell facilities, including hospitals and long-term care. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from school whose Nutrition, Dietetic, Institutional Management Programs is accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education (CADE) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA)
  • Completion of an approved dietetic internship program
  • Dietetic Registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
  • Licensure from the State of Alaska, Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development, Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing required within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
  • Manager Competency required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
  • 4 years of experience as a clinical dietitian (minimum)
  • Advanced level of medical nutrition therapy and clinical knowledge
  • Working level of computer knowledge
  • Human behavior and techniques for effective behavior change
  • Supervision skills in management
  • Principles and practices of supervision, discipline, leadership, mentoring and training
  • Principles, techniques and practices of nutrition education and counseling
  • Educational methods and skills in training others in the principles of nutrition
  • Current sociological and economic problems pertaining to community health nutrition
  • Food requirements of various age groups, senior citizens, expectant mothers, poor persons, and others with specialized food or feeding requirements
  • Principles of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Skills in Clinical nutrition services: screening, assessment, diagnosis, education, intervention, monitoring and evaluation using the Nutrition Care Process for patients at all levels of care and age
  • CERNER EHR system knowledge
  • Education, counseling, and teaching skills
  • Competent using basic computer software: Microsoft Word, Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) or other electronic medical record charting software.
  • Ability to work with other staff members: the Hospital Nutrition staff as well as other healthcare professionals: physicians, nurses, patient representatives, and other diabetes team members.
  • Ability to function independently on assigned patient care units.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form to patients, public, hospital and medical staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
  • Ability to supervise the work of subordinate staff through training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Ability to provide nutrition consultation to others, including health care professionals.
  • Ability to analyze diets for nutritional adequacy.
  • Ability to communicate and establish effective working relationships with co-workers, clients, their families, senior citizens, and the public, including individuals from a variety of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise, and accurate reports.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and implement an effective course of action.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all Dietitians throughout the Consortium.
  • Provide all performance evaluations, reviews, reports of services.
  • Support department grant (SDPI) by providing direction, schedules, budgets, pertinent to the work.
  • Use data from multiple sources (including electronic health records) to identify underserved populations in the communities SEARHC serves, and outreach to connect them to prevention, screening, and primary care services (in-person or virtual).
  • Work with Marketing to develop appropriate social media or outreach materials as needed.
  • Keep administration updated and informed on departmental activities, prepares reports and presentations as requested.
  • Manage program operations within following guidelines: department’s policies and procedures, SEARHC’s strategic plan, mission, and vision statements, TJC (The Joint Commission), state and/or federal standards, and coordination with other programs and/or services.
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, and review of medical nutrition’s overall effectiveness and efficiency in meeting both short- and long-range goals.
  • Oversight of training the community partners in delivering health education/intervention programs in their communities.
  • Select, implement, and evaluate evidence-based strategies to effectively improve health status of individuals, small groups and/or communities per the work plan(s) working across the SEARHC region and with multiple SEARHC staff across Divisions.
  • Oversee all food service operations.
  • Supervise and include Aramark Dietitian, Aramark Contract at Sitka and Wrangell facilities (including hospital and LTC).
  • Contribute to the development of processes and procedures.
  • Provide medical nutrition therapy as needed for patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and prediabetes.
  • Provide nutrition assessments, counseling, and medical nutrition therapy for patients of all ages and with a wide variety of medical diagnoses.
  • Document each assessment, counseling, and patient education session using the PCC.
  • Keep the nutrition program in compliance with Joint Commission standards and requirements.
  • Serve as member of Diabetes team and other teams as assigned.
  • Actively participate in the interdisciplinary Case Management Team.
  • Design and implement a quality assurance nutritional program and give feedback to the providers and medical director.
  • Function as a working clinical manager with such duties as serves as a liaison with medical and nursing staffs, and diabetes educator to meet and monitor workload; supervision of patient services dietitians to maximize service delivery for nutritional screening, assessment, education, and care plans.
  • Mentor/proctor AI/AN (American Indian/Alaska Native) students in programs that lead to national registration by working closely with University of Alaska Anchorage Dietetics Internship program.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Division Director.
