About The Position

Nebraska Medicine is seeking an experienced Manager, Network & Unified Communications to lead the engineering and operations of enterprise networking and unified communications across Nebraska Medicine and UNMC. This role involves leading technical teams responsible for connectivity and communication services supporting patient care, education, research, and business operations in a complex, multi-site environment. The position requires balancing 24/7 operational reliability with modernization and long-term strategy, overseeing enterprise networking, wireless, SD-WAN, data center and cloud connectivity, VoIP, collaboration, and contact center technologies. Collaboration with Information Security, Platform Engineering, Data Center Operations, clinical and academic stakeholders, vendors, and IT leadership is essential to enhance resiliency, reduce technical debt, and build the future digital foundation. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader capable of guiding engineers through complex challenges, driving modernization while maintaining critical services, and translating technology strategy into reliable outcomes. This is a primarily remote role with the opportunity to impact exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years progressive network/voice engineering experience, including large, complex, multi-site environments.
  • Minimum of 3 years leading technical teams with 24x7 operational accountability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on expertise with enterprise routing/switching, wireless, SD-WAN, load-balancing, DNS/DHCP, SIP trunking, QoS, and UC/collaboration.
  • Experience with contact center platforms and call-flow/IVR design.
  • Demonstrated mastery of ITIL processes (incident, change, problem) and service reporting.
  • Strong vendor management and budgeting experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Healthcare delivery organization experience and familiarity with clinical communications.
  • Certifications: CCNP/CCIE (or equivalent vendor certs), Cisco Collaboration/Voice, Palo Alto, ITIL, PMP.
  • Cloud networking: Azure VNets/VWAN, AWS VPC/Transit Gateway, hybrid connectivity.
  • Zero Trust segmentation, micro-segmentation, NAC, and network automation (IaC/APIs).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and operations of enterprise data networking and unified communications across Nebraska Medicine and UNMC.
  • Own the strategy, reliability, and lifecycle of LAN/WAN, wireless, data center and cloud networking, VoIP, collaboration platforms, and contact center technologies.
  • Ensure secure, resilient connectivity and communication services that enable patient care, education, and research.
  • Partner closely with Information Security, Platform Engineering, Data Center Operations, clinical and academic stakeholders, vendors, and IT leadership.
  • Strengthen resiliency, reduce technical debt, and build the digital foundation for the future.
