Amgen, one of the world’s leading biotechnology companies, is investing $550 million to build a new multi-product drug substance biomanufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina. This facility will combine traditional stainless steel-fed batch and single-use technology, an approach Amgen calls “FleX Batch” manufacturing, making it more dynamic, efficient, and requiring a smaller footprint. The plant will integrate innovations for digitalization and sustainability, aiming for industry 4.0 capabilities and reduced energy consumption and waste to meet Amgen’s plan to be carbon neutral by 2027. The Manager Maintenance Utilities will provide technical and administrative leadership to a diverse group of personnel, including utility operators, electricians, and HVAC maintenance technicians. The base schedule is 3pm – 11pm, Monday through Friday. During the construction phase, the role involves supporting the start-up of utility systems, developing long-term strategies for utility operations and maintenance, and supporting budget development for utility services. Post-construction, the role is responsible for leading utility staff and service providers, managing maintenance programs (preventive, predictive, corrective), ensuring staff training on safety and GMP standards, and overseeing facilities/utilities/maintenance initiatives and projects. The position requires cross-functional collaboration and a focus on improving plant capability and equipment reliability.
