About The Position

Amgen, a leading biotechnology company, is building a new multi-product drug substance biomanufacturing facility in Holly Springs, North Carolina. This facility will utilize a "FleX Batch" manufacturing approach, combining traditional stainless steel-fed batch and single-use technology for increased dynamism and efficiency. The plant will also integrate innovations in digitalization and sustainability, aiming for industry 4.0 capabilities and reduced environmental impact to meet Amgen's carbon neutral goal by 2027. This role is crucial for supporting the construction, start-up, and ongoing operations of the site's utility systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma / GED and 10 years of Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance experience OR Associate’s degree and 8 years of Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance experience OR Master’s degree and 2 years of Manufacturing Equipment Maintenance experience OR Doctorate degree
  • Experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources (may run concurrently with technical experience).

  • 2 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources
  • 4+ years’ experience in engineering or utility operations within biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical or other regulatory environments, or Military experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and administrative leadership to craft-oriented personnel, including utility operators, electricians, and HVAC maintenance technicians.
  • Support the start-up of all site utility systems and transfer of ownership during the construction phase.
  • Develop and implement a long-term strategy for continuous plant and clean utility operations and maintenance.
  • Support the development and implementation of goals, objectives, and budgets for utility services and equipment.
  • Ensure utility operations and maintenance programs align with cGMP, safety requirements, regulations, and Amgen Maintenance excellence standards.
  • Institute supporting organization and business structures, including innovation and talent development.
  • Ensure procedures are in place for cGMP and daily activities and are followed by personnel and contractors.
  • Ensure the safety of all personnel during plant construction, start-up, operations, and maintenance activities across multiple shifts, providing 24/7 coverage.
  • Lead the Amgen NC F&E utility staff and Service Providers supporting continuous clean and plant utility operations, including electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Provide support, including outside of normal working hours, to maintain continuous and compliant utility operations.
  • Manage and monitor a robust utility system maintenance program (preventive, predictive, corrective) to improve safety, reliability, efficiency, and quality.
  • Ensure all staff are trained and follow safety and GMP standards and procedures.
  • Improve staff productivity and efficient resource utilization.
  • Analyze and review engineering/construction/maintenance cost forecasts against scope.
  • Oversee and execute facilities/utilities/maintenance related initiatives and small projects.
  • Provide expertise and resources for capital project execution.
  • Work cross-functionally with individuals, partners, clients, and others in Engineering, EHS, Quality, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing.
  • Maintain and improve plant capability and equipment reliability.
  • Identify areas for improvement, conduct analyses, recommend solutions, sponsor improvement projects, and lead or support implementation.
  • Maintain and develop key performance indicators of maintenance performance.
  • Lead, assess, and develop staff, ensuring targets and achievements are completed on time and on budget.
  • Support network-wide improvement in plant maintenance and operation.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to organizational resources to accomplish activities and objectives.
