About The Position

Continental Western Group (CWG) is seeking a Manager, Loss Control/Risk Services to lead a team of Risk Services Professionals and oversee the department's daily operations. This role is responsible for driving strategic goals aligned with corporate objectives and fostering a positive culture, with a strong emphasis on client experience. The manager will also be responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining talent, managing departmental goals, and seeking process improvement opportunities. Regular interaction with internal and external partners is expected, as is staying current with industry developments. The role involves budget preparation and management for the department.

Requirements

  • Strong demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • In-depth technical experience in risk control disciplines.
  • Training and presentation experience.
  • Valid driver's license for travel.
  • Highly skilled in creating, sharing, and leading a vision, and in change management.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach teams through change, lead people, and achieve results through others.
  • Ability to think ahead and plan over a 2–3-year time span and organize and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong communication skills with all levels of the organization and ability to attract, coach, and develop talent.
  • Problem analysis and problem resolution skills at both strategic and functional levels.
  • Strong customer orientation and interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Regular, consistent demonstration of commitment to company values and guiding principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, company business systems, and various analytical tools to evaluate data.
  • Ability to travel on a regular basis and work outside normal work schedule to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university with a preferred emphasis in occupational/industrial safety, agricultural science, engineering, or insurance; or ten years related experience with property/casualty risk control; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • CSP, CFPS, CDS, CIH certification desired.
  • Current or prior working knowledge of Commercial Agribusiness is a strong plus.
  • Completion of or progress toward AINS, AIM, ARM, CPCU, or similar professional insurance designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Risk Services Professionals, providing direction and oversight of daily operations.
  • Create a positive work environment and collaborate with business unit partners to develop and implement strategic goals and objectives that support enterprise alignment and strategy.
  • Attract, select, develop, and retain high-caliber talent through active performance management and implementation of a meaningful development process.
  • Contribute to CWG's overall success by developing departmental and individual team member goals; measuring results, rewarding achievements, or taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Make changes as warranted to ensure account expectations are met or exceeded, consistently seeking process improvement opportunities.
  • Interact regularly, by phone and in person, with internal and external business partners to build ongoing partnerships, share innovative ideas and solutions, and expand CWG's Risk Services Value Proposition.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments and actively participate in industry seminars and programs to advance technical knowledge and incorporate relevant practices into operations.
  • Assist in preparing the departmental budget, including forecasting FTE, salary budget expense, travel expense, training, and equipment needs, and submit to the Risk Services AVP for annual budget preparation.
  • Manage the departmental budget throughout the year.
  • Directly lead Risk Services professionals, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Carry out leadership responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Interview, hire, and train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
