This role establishes and maintains productive labor-management relations for the Company’s unionized workforce. It administers the company's labor relations policy subject to top management guidance and approval, and represents management in labor relations, including the negotiation, interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial relations or business administration or equivalent work experience.
  • 4 - 6 years’ experience in Labor or Human Relations or equivalent managerial experience required.
  • 2 years’ experience with industrial relations dealing with bargaining units in a heavy industry environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Ability to work long hours and travel on short notice as required.

Responsibilities

  • Administer all aspects of Collective Bargaining Agreements and labor policies for full employee life-cycle, including but not limited to grievance procedures and progressive discipline, while developing union-avoidance programs at nonunion facilities.
  • Operate as primary point of contact for multiple unions in day-to-day matters regarding hiring, contract interpretation, and other administrative tasks.
  • Support top management in developing strategies to address bargaining unit /non bargaining unit labor relations issues.
  • May include Human Resources responsibilities which requires a thorough knowledge of HR policies and procedures as well as federal and state laws.
  • Responsible for labor relations activities for bargaining and non-Bargaining unit groups.
  • Contribute during collective bargaining in various levels.
  • Perform investigations into employee complaints in coordination with the Workplace Investigations team.
  • Lead Union Communication meetings, grievance hearings, arbitrations and contract negotiations.
  • Responsible for compliance requirements such as government insurance and license permits.
  • Works with the Payroll department to ensure payroll and benefit contributions are administered correctly.
  • Utilize company systems for documenting work product.
  • May maintain files and records including all transactions performed for union personnel.
  • Act as primary POC for managers, supervisors, vessel captains, and other leaders in management of performance issues, which may involve after-hours work requirements.
