About The Position

The Manager, IoT Systems Deployment leads the planning, deployment, commissioning, and operational transition of IoT and connected manufacturing technologies across production facilities. The role ensures that IoT solutions are deployed safely, consistently, securely, on schedule, and in accordance with approved architecture and engineering standards. It leads deployment engineers and technicians and coordinates with manufacturing, plant and corporate IT, controls engineering, networking, cybersecurity, MES, infrastructure, vendors, and IoT platform teams. The position bridges IoT architecture and engineering with operational execution, turning approved designs and standards into reliable production solutions. The manager develops site-readiness processes, deployment plans, and repeatable methods for scaling solutions across plants. The role oversees installation and commissioning of connected manufacturing equipment and systems, validates end-to-end connectivity, and ensures deployments meet technical, cybersecurity, quality, schedule, and operational requirements. It also establishes clear ownership across technical domains, formal acceptance and handoff processes, and a deployment playbook covering assessment through closeout. The position leads deployment personnel and external partners, manages schedules, resources, budgets, risks, and technical dependencies, and supports vendor selection and evaluation as needed. It promotes continuous improvement through post-deployment reviews, standards development, process automation, and collaboration with IoT architecture and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead deployment of IoT and OT technologies across manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop deployment strategies, site-readiness requirements, implementation plans, and rollout schedules.
  • Coordinate installation, configuration, commissioning, validation, and production handoff.
  • Establish repeatable deployment methodologies that can scale across multiple plants.
  • Prioritize deployments based on business value, manufacturing requirements, technical dependencies, and available resources.
  • Ensure deployments meet defined scope, schedule, quality, cybersecurity, and operational requirements, and provide leadership visibility into progress, risks, dependencies, and resource constraints.
  • Establish a formal site-readiness process and go/no-go criteria before deployment begins.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of IoT gateways, industrial PCs, edge-computing devices, sensors, industrial Ethernet infrastructure, wireless IoT devices, machine connectivity, data-acquisition systems, manufacturing-system interfaces, and edge-to-cloud integrations.
  • Ensure deployments follow approved technical standards, configuration baselines, cybersecurity policies, and engineering documentation.
  • Validate each layer of the manufacturing connectivity chain before production acceptance and assign technical issues to the appropriate engineering domain.
  • Coordinate deployment activities across manufacturing operations, plant and corporate IT, IoT and controls engineering, MES, network engineering, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data engineering, maintenance, production engineering, equipment suppliers, and system integrators.
  • Define responsibilities through a RACI model for design, installation, configuration, testing, approval, escalation, and operational support.
  • Develop a repeatable IoT Deployment Playbook covering assessment, design, preparation, deployment, commissioning, validation, documentation, handoff, hypercare, and closeout, with standard deliverables.
  • Ensure IoT/OT deployments meet corporate cybersecurity policies, including requirements for network segmentation, firewalls, remote access, identity, device hardening, and vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure devices use approved operating systems, firmware, software, and configurations; support alignment with IEC 62443 and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Prevent unauthorized or unmanaged IoT devices from entering production environments and ensure exceptions are documented and approved through governance processes.
  • Ensure deployed assets are documented and integrated with appropriate asset-management and CMDB processes, including ServiceNow CMDB/OTSM where applicable.
  • Establish formal commissioning, production acceptance, and operational handoff criteria.
  • Ensure deployed systems transition from project teams into production support and establish a defined hypercare period for significant deployments, typically one to four weeks depending on production criticality.
  • Lead IoT deployment engineers, technicians, contractors, and/or system integrators; establish roles, expectations, and technical standards; develop team capabilities and training plans; conduct resource and capacity planning; and develop future technical leaders.
  • Manage deployment schedules, resources, budgets, and technical dependencies; coordinate with equipment manufacturers, system integrators, and technology vendors; review vendor designs and implementation plans; and hold suppliers accountable for technical, quality, schedule, documentation, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Identify and communicate deployment risks early and support RFQ/RFP activities and technical vendor evaluations where required.
  • Conduct post-deployment reviews, track recurring problems, translate lessons learned into standards and procedures, automate repetitive configuration and validation where practical, reduce installation time and cost, and work with IoT architecture and engineering teams to improve future designs.
