About The Position

The Manager - Inpatient Pharmacy Operations will manage the pharmacy services at all Baptist Health Care inpatient facilities according to hospital policies, standards of practice and State and Federal laws and provides support for the day-to-day oversight of distributive services through the effective management of the pharmacy staff. In collaboration with pharmacy administration, this position contributes to departmental planning and formulates policies and procedures for the pharmacy services. This position handles staff productivity and fostering an environment where pharmacy services are provided in a correct, proper, and prompt manner. This position finds that pharmacy staff members show a level of competence, professionalism, and customer services as defined and required by job performance standards and professional practice. This position assists in the teaching of students and house staff where applicable. This position devotes an adequate amount of time to administrative activities. This position often contacts the physicians, nurses, patients, and other professional personnel. This position constantly works with confidential information.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Pharmacy Required or Bachelor's Degree Pharmacy Required
  • 2 years Pharmacy experience Required
  • 1-3 years Management/Leadership experience Required
  • Pharmacist Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required
  • Pharmacist Consultant Licensed State of Florida within 1 Year Required

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with Pharmacy Administration, develops training and orientation procedures and schedules for assigned pharmacy staff.
  • Updates orientation and training materials to maintain relevancy to job standards and assignments.
  • Provides skills training and staff development.
  • Assures completion of all required competencies within appropriate time frame.
  • Validates staff competency to assume responsibilities associated with the provision of pharmacy services.
  • Corporately, participates in candidate processing – review, interview and hire - of department staff members.
  • Completes and processes assigned staff member performance appraisals.
  • Collaborates Pharmacy Administration to develop effective pharmacist and technician practice/staffing models corporately.
  • Oversees work schedules and provides staffing coverage for pharmacy operations.
  • Schedules staff to attend recommended educational programs and mandatory system or departmental training.
  • Counsel's employees in disciplinary situations according to system or departmental policies.
  • Assists in management of pharmacy equipment, automation, and technology (sterile hoods for intravenous preparation, automated dispensing cabinets, automated compounder, repackaging machine, etc).
  • Supports Consultant of Record in management of controlled substance inventory in accordance with all State and Federal laws and applicable regulatory bodies.
  • Assists with diversion detection systems and follows through appropriately to ensure compliance with narcotic control.
  • Provides support to the Director and/or department leadership team with projects, compliance efforts, policy development, quality and safety initiatives and other tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.
  • Pursues professional growth and development.
  • Ensures staff and departmental compliance with all BH policies, procedures, DNV, state, DEA and other regulatory standards at all times.
  • Keeps staff and department at constant state of DNV readiness.
  • Performs staffing functions as scheduled and ensures staffing model meets work requirements on daily basis.
  • Ensures excellent patient/customer service as measured by departmental service scores.
  • Conducts regular rounding on patients/customers and staff.
  • Utilizes service recovery as necessary.
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organizational, and industrial information to staff.
  • Corporately, actively participates in inventory control and materials management functions of the department.
  • Insures proper billing procedures followed by pharmacy department.
  • Assists in compliance in all areas of hospital pharmacy.
  • Attends leadership and committee meetings and represents pharmacy as assigned.
  • Represents the pharmacy department to the nursing units to ensure that services are provided in an accurate, appropriate, and timely manner.
  • Serves as preceptor for pharmacy residents and students as appropriate.
  • Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services.
  • Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws.
  • Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements.
  • Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
  • Is responsible for the department’s operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services as well as being responsible for the fiscal management of the pharmacy department by ensuring the proper utilization of the organization's financial resources.
